I am yet to read anyone state how JSO have convinced them to move to EV or put solar panels on the roof of their house. The vast majority of comments hold them in contempt.

As I say, very valid topic, but I'm sure they would see different results if they took an alternative approach.

Their strategy is alienating the common guy and no sane politician will want to be associated with a body that causes unrest in the public. Even the Green Party have distanced themselves from JSO, citing multiple examples where they targeted the wrong people. Benefactors are also stepping back due to what they see as failings in the JSO strategy. Above all else, they cannot work any strategy when there’s a growing threat of activists ending up behind bars; I saw one of their metrics some time ago and it read something like volume of oil not drilled per jailed activist. Bonkers!

Protesting / demonstrating / striking is one of the most important and basic of human rights. We may not agree with the cause or their methods of carrying it out, but it is what it is.

I’m a massive fan of it, especially strike action.

JSO must be the most successful group of demonstrators in recent times, like it or not they’ve had more air time than anyone else I can think of. Just look at this thread on a football nerd forum, people are talking about them, whether in a positive or negative manner, it doesn’t matter.

Right wing conversatism has a history in “conserving” it isn’t a big stretch to see how with the right leadership there could be a cross party appeal in moving to net zero.

But they go so far and are so anti capitalist that they only win over the most extreme left wing. It makes no sense if they actually believe in the cause.

I’ve been saying in other threads the right wing populism which is running riot has not come out of a vacuum.

Isolationism/economic nationalism/anti woke. It’s all intertwined with idiocy and political actors pushing people towards these extremes.

The likes of new Labour understood this and worked with the system not to destroy it.

Just stop oil does come across as a bunch of spoilt brat liberals with no financial worries. Even if that’s wrong, it’s easy to sell that narrative.

As others have said, to me it isn't raising awareness, just total disregard for other people.

There are many more ways they could highlight their aims, and get people on their side.

What are JSO trying to achieve, just look at our comments, if you take us as a cross section of their target audience, I'd say they are failing miserably, surely it's about getting folk on side, building up a following, with reasoned and cohesive arguments that will make politicians and the like sit up and take notice. Half of them probably dont even know what they are fighting for, just having a go at the establishment and the elite. Im sorry which ever way you cut it most of their target audience switched off years ago. The only reason were talking about it on here, is because of their failure to make any kind of difference what so ever, and pissing people off in the process.

What are JSO trying to achieve, just look at our comments, if you take us as a cross section of their target audience, I'd say they are failing miserably, surely it's about getting folk on side, building up a following, with reasoned and cohesive arguments that will make politicians and the like sit up and take notice. Half of them probably dont even know what they are fighting for, just having a go at the establishment and the elite. They are purposely setting out to create these reactions, otherwise they’d just camp outside Downing Street waving placards singing Kumbuyah. It isn’t by accident, it’s by design.

Woah calm down champ, I didn’t suggest you started the thread, just that you, and me and others are keeping it going, talking about them. That’s what they want us to do.

Apologies if you were offended by the ‘people like you’ description, it wasn’t intended as an insult. I’ll have to tone down my wording in future not to offend the easily offended amongst us.

You need to stop thinking that they designed these activities to get people ‘like us’ (better?) to side with them. Because they didn’t.
