People struggle to separate Grimes the player from Grimes the captain. He's a great player at this level, and an abhorent waste of the armband.
"Great" is a massive overstatement, he's a decent Championship level footballer.

He struggles when he doesn't have time on the ball, which we haven't seen too much of recently because he's never anywhere to be found in the hustle and bustle of midfield, instead playing this bizarre quarter back type position.

He lacks any aggression for the physical aspect of the game. I'm sure part of the reason he's able to play every minute of every game is because he hardly ever sticks a foot in or makes a tackle and when he has the ball he's rarely close enough to an opposition player to be tackled.

He's got a comfortable life at/in Swansea, he's not under any pressure to deliver anything on the pitch and, by all accounts, his family are very happy here so I fear he'll be here for the rest of his playing days

Our best player. A small handful of our fans hate him for some bizarre reason .

They will jump on any small mistake he makes but other players get a free ride .

A very good Captain also .
You’ve been around a long time and will have seen so much better. Judge a player by what effect he has on the results not five yard back passes. Not fit to lace Cornforths boots or Coughlins let alone Bodde, Pratley, De Guzman, Downes , Cork or Franco

100%

Grimes is potentially a very good player. We saw under Potter and briefly with Duff that he is capable of moving the ball quickly, with purpose and hurting the opposition. Unfortunately performances like that are completely overwhelmed by ones like we saw yesterday.

If I thought he was completely rubbish I wouldn't be half as critical of him as I am. I want to see the Grimes that his biggest cheerleaders insist that we always do. He'd be an asset to the team and actually of interest to other clubs. As it stands he's at worst a millstone around our necks.

The simplest way to put it:

Grimes is both our best and worst midfielder at the same time*

*Franco is changing opinions in that first part, granted

He was excellent for a short period under Cooper towards the last knockings the year we went to the PO final too. Getting forward, shooting and scoring.

Perhaps Williams should try playing him outside his comfort zone - after all he’s asked plenty of other players to do the same. Tell him to be more attack minded. Being available for the pass is all very well and good but then do something with the ball and quickly. He’s shown before that he can do it.

Don’t forget the late Alan Davies. One of the most naturally gifted players I’ve seen in a Swans shirt.

Excellent news. Hopefully some Cornforth, Cougin, Bodde, Pratley, De Guzman, Downes and Cork will be available for selection on Saturday.
