Maybe We Needed Change? Grimes Vs O'Brien

That second half was refreshing

What wasn't were the people behind us in the away end saying that from behind if you squint your eyes you could pretend LOB was Grimes. Seems some will hanker for him like they do for Russy.

And Luke when he goes, too.

Perhaps when they were squinting, they mistook one of the pillars in the stand for O'Brien? That would make the comparison with Grimes less insane.

Less passes, less possession, more long balls and 3 points, that’s the only stats that matter.
Was interesting to see. Someone on here compared it to Cooper ball
Not saying that's great
Nor am I saying it always panned out today. I have 0 issue with passing from back, but it's been pointless when it's the same old same old. Like I said before, maybe this change will start to make us less predictable. It's gonna take a while for change. Players will look for that Grimes pass, but life without Grime. I'm sure what was a TV show in the 90s 📺😂

Oh no way. Jesus. I have been harping on about Grimes on this forum. Again everyone can have their view. Love Grimes, Hate Grimes or Be in the Middle. Point being if anyone thought LOB needs to be Grimes I suggest they go to Coventry. 1 match doesn't make LOB a Messi or Ronaldo. But what he brought was passion, drive and courage. All for a player who has been with us less than a week. I could care less if Coleman had to pay him more to join and he is using us to progress back to Prem League. He showed more in 1 match than Grimes has for a while.

Cooperball massively slated here, strange because when he went to Forest he played some nice football, be interesting to see on Wednesday if we revert back to predictable Swans, hopefully not but we will see.

I slated Cooperball as it was so dull to watch, despite it being effective enough to make the playoffs twice. I thought appointing a manager more interested in passing football was the right choice. Hold my hands up to being wrong on that one now.

Agree, I was bored shitless watching us grinding results as much as that is the objective of the game, I was shocked to see a different style and set up when he joined Forest, but yeah think we all wanted a more footballing manager, but instead we got a possession statistic obsessed knob head.

Swear I fell asleep watching cooperball. But as you said it did get us to playoffs, be that we had Ton's of loans - Under 21 England players and didn't help us down line and he had money which we don't now. I think there is a balance. It can be attractive but effective. Martin was attractive, but at cost of defence. Duff wanted more intensity with less pretty play and was boring. Again it's a balance. I think we all agree it needs to be to the point. I have 0 problems having 50% possession if it means we win. How many times have we had high possession and lost badly. Again don't want to start a debate on managers 😂😂😂

I've heaped praise on today's win and also said we'll stay up earlier this week. Let's enjoy today but not get carried away.
WILLIAMS OUT

I admit I'm getting carried away. It will be short lived. That's the Swansea Way 😂Not had this feeling for a while lol, like all of us. Williams out yes. But I'll keep him if it means we secure safety and then we throw him under bus after that. Safety comes first 😂😂😊

A comparative analysis reveals fascinating differences in approach; one exhibits a steadfast, conservative style, while the other adopts a more dynamic strategy. The season's conclusion will be particularly insightful.

My professional assessment favors O'Brien's proactive approach as better suited to our needs, a position I confidently maintain.

I know I have created an appreciation thread for Lewis O'Brien after 1 game and it is too early but I do think with Grimes gone it has forced our hand to actually play as a team and not play through 1 player. With everything going on this is my thoughts of how it unfolded:

This is my thoughts only:

1. Grimes Team Talk - Rumored this did not go down well with him and team - even though we won

2. Williams Rumours - Performances Decline - Cos of Williams rumours and they feel leadership is going especially with Grimes team talk.

3. Weeks Of Crazy Talk - Williams talks crap, fans unhappy, we lose alot 😂

4. Windows Open - Players not coming in, unrest and behind scenes issues.

5. Grimes Gives Up - Grimes performances have been declining and giving away ball more often than not, like many players. Visibally calling Swansea a shit team on camera at Cardiff. He has checked out. For what ever reason.

6. Grimes Wants Out - Players learn of this get annoyed and now feel 0 leadership on a and off pitch.

7. No Grimes = What do we do. We play with different style last week it didn't work. As 0 creativity.

8. Lewis O Brien Plays Today = Not every ball goes through 1 player ala Grimes. We are learning and adapting to play a different way.

We have a new captain who is learning to be that leader, new ish..... Style.

Conclusion.

The team is not the next best thing and I see alot of pain coming. We are lacking massive depth and of O Brien gets injured we might suffer. But with a new captain and being forced to play differently it might mean Grimes how ever valued and his stats might be, this might be what we needed.

Add onto that Cooper back fit and brininging energy this might mean the team finds their own feet. They have had a divorce from Grimes and now looking for a new partner. O Brien.

Possibly. I thought the answer was a bit simpler earlier in the season - we just needed one or two better quality players in that front four, plus a bit of better depth to come off the bench. The style we had could have been very effective with more attacking threat.

It’ll be interesting to see where we go from here.

As good a footballer as Grimes was, he was the perfect safety blanket for your possession junky type of manager ie. Martin and his clone Lukewarm.
Safe as houses, didn’t give possession away, kept things ticking along nicely.
I liken him to a trusty old Volvo estate.
Unspectacular, reliable, carried baggage but got you where you were going safely.
But hopefully we’re changing to electric.
It Propels you to your destination quicker, smoother, with less fuss, and doesn’t give out toxic emissions.

I think overall it's the same feeling amongst us all with this one. I do think it will take time and I agree for first time with Williams today, gulp. Excluding his Grimes comment on consistency. Yes consistency with hitting ball against a wall.

"I think we're probably in a bit of a transition," he added. "If you lose a player of the quality and consistency of Matt Grimes, and at the same time we've had Harry (Darling) out now. That was his last game of his suspension.

"So the formation is still quite new to us and the personnel is a little bit different. So in that scenario, I think the most important thing is that you compete for every ball and you put your body on the line to defend every goal.

It was so nice not to see him sat in centre defence like Grimes. As I Brien said he5is not filling his boots, Grimes. He is a different player. Ad I'll take that all day. Again not getting ahead of myself, alot and I mean alot we need to improve across the field but their was a shimmer a tiny bit.. Like tiny of old swans when we was creative in second half.
Can I get a translation please?
