They could get rid of her and foist another Tory leader on us. It stretches the constitutional norms to their very limits but they’ll try it. There are enough Tory MPs who know they’d lose their seats to keep this going until the next election has to happen which could be as late as January 2025. There aren’t enough Tory MPs who will put the interests of the country before their own interests or the interests of the Conservative Party. Never has been, never will be.

The only way an election can be forced is if the government loses a confidence vote in the Commons. For the reasons why that ain’t happening, see above.

So when are we realistically going to have a GE then, 2024?

Yup. I can’t see any way it happens early unless the Tories think they’ll win it.

She’s a gonner I reckon. No way will they stick with her until the next election. They’ll change their rules and “appoint” a new leader. Unless she’s so pissed off and decides to call an election before she’s pushed. That would be hilarious.

I was listening to Radio Wales on the way home, they couldn’t get any of the Welsh Conservative MP’s to appear on the show, not surprisingly they were either busy, uncontactable or just refused! They did manage to get a couple of prominent Conservative politicians Lord Nick Bourne and the guy who runs the Conservative Home website. Both were scathing of Truss, one actually said there was a case for a GE but added “turkeys don’t vote for Christmas” and that the prospect of unemployment would deter a vote for a GE. One thought Truss’s days were numbered and that she could be gone by next weekend. They were against the idea of a fresh leadership contest preferring the party to unite behind a “unity” candidate.

I reckon she’ll be gone by the middle of next week.
