Help to pay energy bills should not be required at all, let alone targeted. The energy companies should not be allowed to profiteer from crisis.

You’ve lost me - what is the point in giving a guarantee and then ignoring it? It’s not a guarantee is it? My point, that shouldn’t need making, is that this government cannot be trusted with the country. Whether they ‘should’ or not is irrelevant after the event.
