Season 24/25 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea vs Stoke | The EFL Championship

We have attacking threat...
I think it has to be said Eom was on fire in the first half, virtually beating men for fun, and was unlucky not to score. They doubled up on him in the second half, and he faded as an attacking threat.
But if a player is doubled up on, it means the opponents have left a gap somewhere else. As usual, we couldn't take advantage.

Darling, Cabango and Viggy are playing out of their skins. But it isn't sustainable, we will concede goals. Us not scoring enough to win games could absolutely continue indefinitely though unfortunately.
We are the same stage as we were under Monk, tight games, we need to start scoring goals. either start scoring or start conceding.......take note those in charge.!

Maybe it’s a case of having to sacrifice a bit of attacking threat in order to shore up at the back. We had a season or so of shipping goals at an alarming rate, so we’ve at least sorted most of that. Perhaps the pendulum has swung too far.
I'm hoping that's what's happening and Williams now focusing further forward

Here’s hoping. I think we are better now, but it’s so frustrating that we just can’t get the goals

I'm really not sure the defence is "sorted" to the extent some are saying. Sure, we have had a number of clean sheets this season and the goals against column looks pretty good, but I don't think it tells the whole story.

If you actually watch the games we've been lucky at times - lots of poor finishing from the other team, lots of last ditch defending from us and, let's face it, in a lot of the games Vigoroux has been our MOTM.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if there's a correction to come over the next few matches, we are unlikely to just keep getting away with it.

The wingers are working harder and helping the full backs out more, Grimes is dropping deeper and doing so creating an extra man defensively.
It's definetly a tighter unit being created but it's not been perfect and I wouldn't rule out a bit of a thumping soon enough but saying that...the league as a whole is weaker this season than it has in previous seasons.

No real disagreement with this. Defence is much more solid and we have at least stopped the leaking of goals through our own stupidity. On the other hand Vig has done an incredible job at protecting our goal difference.

The central defenders and Vig are having to (albeit successfully at the moment) make 3/4 literally goal saying tackles / 1 on 1 saves every game. While that's good last ditch defending / scramble defending, it doesn't demonstrate a good team defensive plan.

And we have no attacking plan, and substitutions have probably cost us 6 points at home against 3 gash teams, and yet Williams after getting on for a year shouldn't be vented at some say. He needs to pull his head out of his arse and do better.

Sure, but we are certainly more solid purely on the basis that we have cut out the nonsense around the penalty box which cost us quite a few goals in recent seasons.

Insightful that, as things stand, for two consecutive years our Player of the Year would be the keeper
Similarly there was a spell around 5 years ago where Manchester United started to set in to real, long term decline, where De Gea was their runaway POTY at least twice in a row, I think it may even have been three times.

When that starts happening it's usually a clear sign there's trouble at the mill.

I think some need to relax a bit. We are arguably 2/3 sitters away (in last two games) from being in the play offs. Failure to convert those has been a real disappointment,

Yes you could argue that vig has saved a few too but i think we would have had considerably less pressure if those chances were converted

11 games into the season plus preseason, we should at least be registering a better goal ratio.. I just don't get this bedding in and minutes in the legs excuses going into October.

Our first choice striker now was third choice two years ago

His backup option was only signed because he was free after Bordeaux went bust

Our first choice wingers are honest but have zero end product

Our backup wingers are even worse

Our midfield plays walking football most of the time, allowing the opposition time and space to comfortably defend

With that lack of quality I don't know why you think our goal ratio should be better. If anything, we're exceeding expectations at the moment.
