We aren't talking about mistakes though, it's basic errors week in week out.

Absolutely no reason for these errors in the modern game with the introduction of VAR and other forms of technology.

Also going back to the absolutely nailed on penalty vs Millwall on Vipotnik, bad enough the referee ballsing it up, but why didn't the linesman (who probably had the best view of all) not intervene? Incompetence x 2 ...

And refs in the middle of the pitch making split second decisions. Under much more pressure often than players. Not many of us could deal with that I reckon.

It's not, they are two of the same thing.

Ref makes a mistake on the pitch, his/her colleges in their fancy hut with 48,000 screens have all they need to make the correct informed decision.

There is no excuses to see the levels of incompetence we witness week in week out in the professional game.

Human nature. Has always been in the game. Nothing new, just more TV analysis. The biggest problem in the future is ..who the f**k will want to be a ref. Over a season mistakes tend to even out. Comparing players to refs is like comparing oranges and potatoes.

Mess up as a player and you lose you place in the team, lose you contract, the accountability on player to perform week in week out is far greater.

At no point is anyone expecting referees to be perfect, competent yes. The match day officials do not have any reasons to be as crap as they are.

Not sure anyone has said that on this thread. Getting the basics right would massively help.

Do I think it's disgraceful?

I can only answer from what I've heard around me at the ground and based on some of the bizarre decisions I've seen on an almost weekly basis then yes they deserve what is shouted at them from my observations.

The games I've had the whistle went well, didn't get any shit from anyone other on the pitch or watching.

Back to my original point at starting this thread. We're not asking for perfection, just getting the basics correct would be a start.

Refs make hundreds and hundreds of decisions in a match. Far more than anyone else on the pitch. The vast majority are correct. But the law of averages says they are going to make more mistakes than anyone else. And sometimes in a split second there is going to be a major mistake. I'm just saying we have to live with those. They broadly even out over a season. Just be accepting of human error is all I say. Players and refs.
