Summer Transfer Window

Good to see our youth can still get careers even if we reject them. Hope he goes on to bigger things

Cambridge United have signed Welsh goalkeeper Ben Hughes on a two-year contract.

The 21-year-old joins the League Two U's after leaving Swansea City earlier this year, where he had played for the club's under-18 and under-21 sides.

Hughes has yet to make a senior appearance in the EFL and says his move to Cambridge is "a big moment in my career" and "the right step".

Best of luck to him.
Not everyone who gets released after their first pro contract comes to an end manages to get a foothold elsewhere at another club.

I wouldn’t say no to a decent offer, I like him and still think he has a way to develop but I’d be taking the money if it was good.
What does everyone value him at though? Is there a sell on clause ? I would imagine we wouldn’t sell under 10 million but if a bidding war is sparked we could spend on a very good winger to compliment Inoussa plus a big name striker and fill any other gaps we need to fill. Never say never

Transfermarkt values him at 2m euros :)

I would like to see Ronald stay, he works hard defensively and like many he had a big upturn in creativity and form once Sheehan took over and the brakes were released

Yes he needs to work on his composure and end product when he does get to attacking positions but if he didn't he wouldn't be playing for Swansea City

Think we need to focus now on keeping players of worth and not selling unless it's a too good an offer. £2M for Ronald wouldn't be that.

You'd take 5 mil I think
That would be a decent price. Nothing against Ronald but it’s pretty telling that as a winger, his best attribute is his workrate.

Could develop well under Sheehan though if given time so it’s one where there’s positives either way.

Think we payed nearly 2M for Ronald, think he could develop better this season under Sheehan but if we got 5M and swapped him for Brooks that would be good business.

Would take transfer markt with a pinch of salt, it's been discussed previously on here after we signed Mykolo.

If you look, it has us down as signing Inoussa for 6M euros, we know that could be the total if he stays the length of his contract and ticks every add on.

Price for Ronald, I would be looking at around 5M minimum.

Former Swans Academy Head of Goalkeeping Martin Davies who returned to Cambridge United in October 2021 was instrumental in signing Ben Hughes after the Swansea born keeper impressed during trials at Landore in April 2021 to earn himself a 2 year scholarship contract in May 2021.
