Summer Transfer Window

Am I the only only one who thinks this whole McBurnie saga is quite possibly his agent letting the club know that he is keen. Whether the club is is a very different matter.

To be honest, although certainly better than we have at the moment, his age and his record over the past few years coupled with his supposed wage expectations, mean, for me, we could probably find someone who’d suit us more. One thing I think would be positive is his level of enthusiasm on the pitch. He’d drag players along with him. I just worry that he will have lost some of that energy he had given he is not in his early twenties any longer.

I suspect we will sign him IF our other targets don’t materialise and IF he’s still without a club at that point. I think it likely that we will enter the loan market for our first choice centre forward. Which makes sense in some ways if we think Wales is the longer term answer.

I always liked McBurnie though I must admit. Liked his personality on the pitch as well as his play.
I thought we had debunked the whole record over the past seasons issue. Last season is the most recent - and he had the same number of assists as Ferran Torres Modric and Pepe- and one less than Griezeman and Dani Rodriguez while playing for the worst team in the league.
I think we have our heads up our own asses when we shun a track record in a superior league where the player (statistically) keeps stellar company.
IF IF we can afford the package financially we would be brain dead not to sign him - his style of play would transfotm this squad. In his position, our cupboard is bare

That’s a bit of a weird comparison though?

Ferran Torres had 29 La Liga appearances last season and scored 10. McBurnie had 34 and scored 3. Griezmann had 8 goals. Dani Rodriguez only played once for Barcelona?
Modric isn’t a forward.

I don’t think McBurnie is a bad player - as I said, he’s better than we have. I’m just saying his record hasn’t been great since leaving us.

He may well join - who knows. We may be left with no better options. I just suspect he’s not at the top of our list at this point.

The beauty of being a fan - we all see things differently. You point out discrepancies in the comparisons - fair enough. However, I would maintain the biggest discrepancy is in the quality of team mates.
If any of those others had been playing for Las Palmas - how would have their stats have measured up - we will never know - but you have to think they would not have found it as easy surely!
