Summer Transfer Window

Pretty much been debunked by Swansea Independent. Seems like agents talking. I am big fan of Franco, but he is far from the finished product. If we really want to get something from him, then keep him and demand higher next year. Not advocating for a sale, but if and when it happens, makes sense not to sell now.
At least we have a strong negotiating position and should be able to command a decent fee. It would be surprising if there wasn't interest, but whether that translates into bids is another matter.

Wasn't impressed by Delcroix but you put a very strong argument on this and it's a think. Don't get me wrong, I would want players who are better and don't want to settle, but if money is right then a fair back up he is.
Delcroix was a player that on paper looked a good signing but after seeing him play wasn't impressed at all. He done what was required for us but I think the door got slammed when he left.

Physically he was weaker than he needed to be and not great on the ball with the regular sand wedge pass out to Tymon being read way before he made it.

Was a very Vanilla signing in the end and not someone we should be going back in for.

A bit OTT suggesting a squad player would have us heading back to league one. By your logic no team should sign league one players regardless of their pedigree. Signing experienced centre backs from Championship clubs will not come cheap in transfer fees and wages. We simply don't have the financial leeway to have consistent quality throughout the squad.
I'm not suggesting that League One players shouldn't be signed, absolutely they should and we should be active in that market.

However we should be looking at players that have potential and fit a good age profile (Galbraith & Low are 2 you have mentioned previously). I fear Santos is one past his best, the wrong age profile (for resale) and if he was really Championship quality teams would have been in for him over the past few seasons (and Bolton would have sold as they have had their fair share of financial issues over the past few years).

My reasoning about heading to League 1 was not really based on Santos alone just that this type of signing lacks ambition and if you sign League 1 quality that's were ultimately you will end up.

You make some perfectly reasonable points, and although I agree in general, we have to evaluate each case on its merits. We would need to take a close look at this pelvic injury issue to see if it's fully behind him. Assuming it is we would then need to carefully evaluate his capabilities. I'm confident we wouldn't offer him a contract without doing our homework.

I don't think we can afford to only sign youngsters. Sheehan talked about getting a balance experience wise, and I agree. One or two older heads in key positions to supplement mainly younger signings seems prudent to me.

Agree Physically he was not up to it, and switched off. I don't see us going back in for him. Did what was required, but didn't really set world on fire.

Surprised Darling is still here...he must have Wrexham and Birmingham's offer put in front of him unless he is waiting on another option..

I must admit I am quite baffled by the Delcroix criticism from some quarters. When a regular in the team he did quite well, was actually playing better than Darling at one point and can probably consider himself hard done by when dropped for HD.

If we can get him for anything around the £1m mark I'd consider that to be a bit of a bargain.

I thought he had some solid games for us but every time I’ve seen him in person he doesn’t convince me that he’s physically good enough at times. He struggled particularly against Oxford, you could see in that game that Darling was missing. If he’s brought in to bolster and not necessarily start then I’d do the deal if the price was good.

Can only base my opinion on what I saw first hand.

Going on his stats here, in the 8 games he played a full 90mins, we conceded 16 goals and only won 1 of those games and kept 1 clean sheet.
Not good enough for me.

So he was single handedly responsible for those results?

Of course not.

Although on the flip, in the other 10 games that he didn't play 90mins, we conceded 6 goals, won 7 and kept 7 clean sheets.

I can see why Darling came back into the team, both first hand and stat wise.

Just my opinion.

So why mention them then?
Because they were the stats that he played 90mins in.
If I thought it was down to him single handedly them I would have just said it. After you asked the question I thought I would look at the other games he wasn't involved in....what I got from it was how much better all round the results and clean sheets were when Darling was playing.

Not good enough for me and those stats don't make for good reading......but just to echo my answer, I don't think it was down to him single handedly although when he played we conceded a lot more goals.
