Summer Transfer Window

Ben Davies has only played 24 games so far this season and only played 19 games last season. He'd be another Joe Allen if he came back, one of the highest paid players who spends more time in the treatment room than on the pitch.

Someone said the other day, we need to get over this fascination with bringing former players back when they are well past their best. Look to develop the younger players instead, they cost a fraction of the wages and will give more of a return in the long run
Totally different scenario to Joe Allen.

Ben is 32, fit as a fiddle (as someone just said, he's not really been injured this season just been out of favour) and a defender's shelf life is a lot longer than a midfielder or attacker because the game is played in front of you, you don't really need legs. If we signed Ben now he'd be one of the best defenders in the Championship.

On the other hand, Joe was buggered coming back here, we should never have taken him. And the hamstring injury in his first season finished him as a 90 min player.

Dream scenario to kick off the window would be LOB and Darling re-signing.
Let's say we can't them done.
Who is your picks for a CB & a MF to replace them?

Looking at his injury history, he's missed 12, 11 and 13 games over the last 3 seasons. That includes 3 separate hamstring injuries that made him miss 19 games.

I'd be extremely wary about dedicating a significant proportion of our wage budget to a player in his 30s with a history of muscle injuries, that's not usually something which will improve with age

There was some chatter on here a couple of weeks ago from an 'ITK' about some good news imminent on Darling's situation, but it's been crickets since then.

Maybe he wanted to see clarity on the manager situation first, or maybe it was just a false alert.

Joe played 44 games for Stoke the season before he joined us. We just got unlucky.

If it was a binary choice between giving Allen a hefty salary and letting him go I'd choose the latter. But it isn't a binary choice. We could either offer him a low basic wage of say £5,000 a week or offer a contract to Xmas, with an option to extend to the rest of the season depending on appearances. Allen will be keen to keep going at least until Xmas, by which time it will be clear if Wales have made the World cup or not.

Keith Haynes on the other forum:

"As an example both Allen and Naughton are on no more than 5k a week now.

Next season we have been told would be even less. Pin money for both of them."

If true it's a no-brainer to sign both.

“No more than £5 thousand pounds a week, pin money”

Imagine going to your local ATM, putting in your card and thinking, let me just check my balance, “Oh yes, there it is in my account, another
£5 thousand pounds for a weeks “work” “
Nice work if you can get it.
Bloody luxury! I used to live in a shoebox in the middle of tutroad!!

Picks for CB
1. Joe Low - Free
2. Kyprianou - Hold M/F Center Half

3. Matty Pearson - experience, 31, Huddersfield scores 5 per season, 6ft 2, on a Free
4. Tyler Bindon - Reading, 20, on loan from Forest, 15 caps already for New Zealand (Loan)
5. Emmanuel Fernandez - Peterboro, 23, 5 goals, breakout season this season, 6ft 4

That's if we are shopping in League 1. Sounds like we may be aiming higher with new board.

If you can add Widdell to Obrien and Franco - I think we will be a handful for most teams next season. If Darling signs great - IF not then we need to really get the replacement right.
