Summer Transfer Window

Looking at Santos' stats over a number of seasons his nuts and bolts defending stats - tackles, duels and aerial duels are consistently good. He does seem to concede 1 penalty a season on average. Overall he would seem to be a solid squad option, and we certainly need those, given that we will lose Pedersen, Naughton and Delacroix and possibly Darling. I suspect we will also look to sign a utility player who can cover full back and centre half roles, or DM and centre half roles, such as Kyprianou.

I lie awake at night wondering how we can possibly replace Pedersen 😉

You’re not wrong in the main as we’ve a lot of work to do with the defence, but I think we can exclude him from any considerations.

Fair enough. In any event we need 4 centre backs minimum, and, if Darling leaves as expected, we will only have Cabango. Lissah almost certainly needs a loan, so that leaves 2 dedicated centre backs and one utility player minimum.

Lissah could be the 4th centre half.

I think we will sign a centre half capable of covering one of the full back positions.

still wouldnt want Santos as a 3rd CB, 30 next month, no championship experience.
30 is young for a centre back. Being in the league one EFL team of the year 3 years is a row suggests he's top quality at that level minimum. The meagre transfer budget is a major consideration here. A free signing and modest wage for a squad player isn't to be sniffed at.

Lissah will be 21 in the forthcoming season. Long past the point where a loan is the best option. If he's ever going to be good enough he needs to be in and around our first team squad now.

We really need to get our best 17/18 year olds playing as much proper competitive football as possible as opposed to wasting their time in the youth nonsense.

Too right. We have people suggesting that Oli Cooper should be cut some slack because he's still learning his trade. He's 25!
Meanwhile Arsenal have a couple of 17 year olds scoring goals in the Champions league.
We're terrible at blooding youngsters and have been for a very long time.

Now Wycombe haven’t made it through to the final now’s the time to pick up Joe Low on a free and use him as our 3rs choice CB.

Couldn't agree with you more.

There was a shift at some point during the Martinez era where the club seemed to come to the conclusion that we were discarding youth "talent" too early. I think we resigned Chad Bond shortly after. The reality is that, barring a rare few outliers, any player capable of making an impact at their teams current level should be doing so whilst still a teenager.

Kyrell Wilson should have been out on loan a year before he actually was.

That's the thing.
Stats are relevant to the level players are playing or have played.

Look at Paul Mullin for example, great stats in the conference and L2 but couldn't cut it at L1.

Langstaff another one, did he even score a goal for Millwall?

I think he got one.
Stats are good to a certain level but when using them on an uneven scale such as league 1 to championship then you are taking a gamble and hoping a bit BUT that can be said on most signings.
