Summer Transfer Window

On another note of absurdity Real Madrid have just paid Liverpool roughly 10m euros to buy out the last 30 days of his contract early just so that they can use him in the club world cup.

Delcroix obviously will not be free. Burnley will want to cover their last payment of around 800K. But Santos will not be free either.

Any out of contract player will demand a signing on fee from his new club. Harry wants approx 750k to resign with us. Santos may be around 250K.

So the difference in cost is approx 1/2m. Wages will be higher on Delcroix.

btw I am not sold on Delcroix. Just making the point that there are younger players than Santos out there with possible resale value.
Are you saying you believe the wages will be higher on Delcroix than HD or Santos?

I would imagine without a doubt that HD will command a higher wedge than Delcroix.

That said, I'm not quite sure where the Delcroix love is coming from? For me he is solidly a middling CB in a back 3. We aren't going to be playing 3 (at least that I'm aware of), so Delcroix wouldn't make sense at all.

Additionally, at least from a financial perspective, I agree that Santos doesn't make the most sense either.

Delcroix isn't the answer and I agree that the Santos link doesn't make much sense.
We need to be looking at better and this is where the new guys behind the scene need to deliver and earn their coin. The club show they have learned from previous seasons with regards recruitment.

I'm hopeful and putting the Santos link down to paper talk and agent work, I believe after witnessing Delcroix loan first hand that he will not be an option.

My Bolton supporting mate says Santos has been a really good player for them over the last few seasons but reckons he's probably just past his best now and would be surprised if we sign him as he doesn't see him as a Championship player.

It feels an odd statement considering that Santos has been in the League One team of the season for three out of the past four years.

I read their forum when we were first linked and that’s pretty much what they were saying.
From memory, they’ve had a centre back on loan who’s kept him out of the team. He was outstanding in their promotion season but not the same player in league 1.

Do we really want to sign a player that is 30 in June and also would we want a big lump to play alongside a player easily exploited for his lack of pace - Cabango. Our former academy defender Joe Lewis would be a better bet - Man of the Match in the Play Off Final, and five years younger.

Centre backs are coming into their prime at 29, so I can't see him being past his peak.
He is 30 in 19 days time. Ben just turned 32 and is now in downgrade mode.

30 is definitely not in prime.

If 30 was prime Liverpool, Citeh Arsenal etc would be signing 30 year olds all the time. Are they?

Prime lol
