The new arena

OK, dont know any of them but as long as we get decent acts i dont care. Just googled and Jack Saveretti was there that would be a good start just saying.

I have a feeling it will be some kind of Welsh gala type event to open it with the usual supspects of Tyler, Boyce etc..

Good promoters tend to sniff out the tastes / demographic of a particular area and a lot of the bands i like will still give Cardiff and Swansea a swerve due to the brilliant venues they have in Bristol (Thekla, SWX, Trinity, Academy etc..) bigger chance of selling the tickets.

It will be be commercially middle of the road stuff mixed in with the likes of say Gerry Cinammon, Snow Patrol that kind of dirge.

If you can get to 5k with standing it opens more possibilities. Hope it is a success. Only bands I ever saw in Swansea were New Order in the Mayfair in 1985 and the Manics/SFA/PSB at the Liberty in 2016.

I wonder if they could reduce capacity for the college circuit type acts, like they do in other arenas? Take out seats and put a sound curtain at the back?

Ambassador Theatre Group have the contract to run it. Be down to them to organise events.

It'll be the biggest arena in their portfolio, but they've got a lot of experience in the field.

I wonder who will sponsor it and therefore what it'll end up being called?

Motorpoint will sponsor it once the second hard market settles down ( if it ever does) Cardiff Motorpoint is going to be demolished because it’s too small and they are building a big arena apparently.

I fear the new arena will be a white elephant just taking the shows from the Grand Theatre, it’s too small for a decent sized concert and too big for an intimate concert, hopefully there is some way of sectioning it off as a smaller venue.

Comedians seem to use Princess Royal Theatre, Port Talbot and Pontardawe Arts centre, these days very few seem to use Swansea for some reason.

Its near enough the same size as the Hammersmith Odeon or whatever its called now. One of the best places for sound and gigs ive been to.

Touring is expensive for most bands so they want to maximise revenue 15k arena in Cardiff ( which is what they are building) or 3.5-5k in Swansea.

There's trains, all after 2300, to Swansea, Llanelli & Fishguard, Hereford, Bristol, Gloucester after gigs in Cardiff.

But not Pontypridd,’Rhondda or Merthyr for example. Few local trains after 10pm and often cancelled in the last 20 years.

Maybe improving now. When I saw the Smiths in 1984 last Treherbert (Rhondda )train was 12.05.
By 86 that was 11. Went to 10.20 in the 1990s. It’s OK catching the tail end of intercity services. Merseyrail is good in contrast. Last train out of Liverpool is 12 and from Chester at 11:45. Put on late Trains at Xmas weekends too

Presumably the New South Wales Metro will assist in this area by providing around the clock travel? It appears to only really serve Cardiff and surrounding areas but no doubt as a green alternative to cars it will take all the transport budget for Wales.
