In much the same way as the people calling for Corbyn to start a New New Labour party would be handing perpetual power to the Tories.
Which is a failing of FPTP really. There should be no reason why there couldn't be a centre-left party led by Starmer and a social democrat party led by Corbyn. If we had proper PR one of them could form a government with the support of the other.
