In much the same way as the people calling for Corbyn to start a New New Labour party would be handing perpetual power to the Tories.

Which is a failing of FPTP really. There should be no reason why there couldn't be a centre-left party led by Starmer and a social democrat party led by Corbyn. If we had proper PR one of them could form a government with the support of the other.

There is precedent in the US for this - Teddy Roosevelt started his Progressive Party after a split from the Republicans, all it did was give Woodrow Wilson a massive win that he never would have achieved if his opponents hadn't split - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1912_United_States_presidential_election

Not entirely sure that a party led by Corbyn would have any interest in working with one led by Starmer, or vice versa. Too many crazies on the Corbyn side.

If you look at Spain, that's exactly what we have here now, a coalition government with the socialist PSOE (eqiuvalent of Starmer's Labour) governing with junior partner Podemos (a hard left party which would be the Corbyn equivalent). In parliament, they are usually supported in votes by three or four fringe nationalist parties from Catalonia, Basque Country, etc, the equivalent of the SNP and Plaid.
It will never happen in the UK because you'll never get rid of the first past the post system, specially if Scotland manages to gain independence.

A corbyn led independent party would have about as much impact as the Socialist Workers Party or Respect.
