I've been thinking that the Impeachment Managers are missing the point, showing hour after hour of appalling scenes from the storming of the Capital Building. All Trump's (useless) lawyers have to say is, yes these scenes are truly shocking, but all Trump was doing was asking his supporters to protest peacefully, they mistook the meaning of his words.
We all know that's bullsh*t, but it's all the fig leaf the Republican senators need to acquit.
I think on reflection the Democrats are playing the long game. They know they've got no chance of impeachment success, this is all about chipping away at Trump's power base. There has already been a formal Zoom meeting amongst some 100 very senior peope with Republican sympathies sbout forming a breakaway party.
