Vipotnik , Bianchini & Eom

He went straight to the premier league didn’t he? With Roberto? Or am I misremembering. Probably a step too far. He’d have been great if he’d stayed with us for the championship.
I thought he went from l1 to champ but as you say, a while ago!

The game has moved on leaps and bounds since we had Scotland in that Martinez side. He had midfielders around him who could play the ball to feet and then run off him. I’d hate to be a striker in this current Swans side. The football is so pedestal, all the striker seems to do is shuffle left to right to left as the ball is being done so by the defenders.

Roughly gets you to 12 assists in a season, not too shabby. If you told me we were loookjjg at a 21(?) year old winger who had 12 assist last season I'd be biting your hand off, so let's please not think otherwise
If you stop looking at the stats though and look at the games, he gets fed everything all game and does almost nothing with it almost every time. He’s not, at present at least, good enough. Same with Eom on the other side.
I’d keep him in the squad. But we have to be looking for better as a starter if we’re going to get anywhere.

If we're looking at a winger who creates an average of twelve goals per season and this fella rocked up, I'd be asking if we kept the receipt.

The minimum requirement of a winger is to beat the full back, this guy can't beat an egg.

Of course it has. The point was that we were spoilt for strikers for quite a long time starting with him. And we’ve forgotten that it’s really difficult to find them.

I agree with the pedestrian comment. Even so, the others (Cullen for example) look better than Vipotnik at creating any sort of space.

Jason Scotland i think scored 21 league goals in our first season back in the championship in 2008/2009.
Yes, that’s what I’d thought, and then went with Roberto to Wigan in the premier league?

After one season?

If he’d stayed with us in the championship he’d have continued doing what he’d been doing the previous two years.
I’ve been confused now into thinking he went after league 1 but he can’t have done as he went at the same time as Roberto.

It’s a bit of an indictment of our current lot that you’re wanting Yates back…

Obviously we all want them to all suddenly become fantastic and turn into a wonderful team but it is amusing that people feel sorry for players being criticised as though they’re amateurs doing their best. They are paid thousands and thousands a week to play at this level. It’s perfectly reasonable to say they don’t appear to be good enough.
They may be good enough elsewhere. They may be giving their all. It’s not even their fault. It’s the fault of those who’ve scouted them for us.

Every word of this, and the other thing to add as well - it shouldn't really take all that long to tell whether a player is going to excel at the level he's at. Think Flynn Downes. You could pretty much see from day one, he had "it".

Sure, some players are slow burners, but it's January now, and if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck.....well.

I think Scotland would struggle in this team

Scotland was brilliant when the ball was played to his feet, he could turn and get his shot. We don’t ever seem to play the ball centrally to the Strikers feet these days
I was thinking during the Luton game how much difference a striker like Scotland or Bony could make in this team. A striker who can receive the ball with his back to goal and use his strength to hold up the ball until the wingers and midfielders can get up in support. Perhaps we'd play that kind of ball more often if we had a striker like that.

If our striker lost a stone he might manage to shuffle back and fore as well as left to right.

Not harking back. Using examples from the past to make a point about the present.

We have very few gems, latent or otherwise. We’ve sold them all.
And there you go again, in your post about not harking back, you hark back.

This is a thread about our young guns, right now.

What you ought to be focusing on is how best leverage our current crop, keep up…..

I'd like to leverage most of our current crop out the door to be honest mate, we need a massive overhaul during the next three windows to get us competitive in this league, I'm hopeful the new owners will facilitate the changes needed, it will take time.

That's why there was such animosity over Martinez departure. He not only went himself, but took Graham Jones with him, signed Scotland and also, though he wasn't our player Jordi Gomez, who may have signed here had he stayed.

Well actually it’s a thread about Eom, Vipotnik and Bianchini. Which has been expanded a little into Ronald as well.

I think we can best leverage them by buying players to replace them in the starting 11 and having them as squad players.to be honest. As they’re aren’t, at present, good enough to mount any sort of challenge in this division.
