Play him or sell him then, if Martin uses him to fill a spot on the bench it will be an appalling decision...

Or maybe he’s just matured and focussed on having a decent career.

Yeah or maybe the Plymouth manager isn't an egotistical control freak like our manager

Official now.
Will be extremely interesting to see if/how RM utilises him considering what he has shown at Plymouth and to a lesser extent Lincoln last season.

It will be interesting how this plays out, because Russ clearly didn't have any confidence in him before he went to Plymouth.

Got to feel for the boy at the moment.

He’ll be lucky to be on the bench knowing Martin.

I’ll be well pissed off if we’ve recalled him just to sell him.

If indeed it’s the case that the conversation went something like “oi, owners, I need a new striker” with the response “well there’s a perfectly good one of ours down at Plymouth you can have him back and be grateful about it cos you’re getting nothing else” then I don’t expect Whitaker to get much game time. The massive Martin ego won’t allow it.

Have you seen the interview where Russ talks about this? He does not want him back.

Not a word in the O.S. article about him being an additional option to the squad.

I haven’t but I’ve got the gist. Whittaker will kick his heels in the stands or on the bench as a mostly unused substitute is my guess. We’ll see.

We should be ashamed of ourselves as a club if we do that to the boy, sad thing is though, I think it’s likely.

He brings goals, assists, pace and a willingness to shoot.
RM absolutely has to get him on side and in the side.

For me he replaces Paterson in the squad and will be competing for the two supporting midfield positions behind the striker along with Cooper, Cundle and Piroe if he isn't playing as the main striker himself.

Cundle always seems underwhelming every time I see him play, have yet to see what makes people hype him up (in a similar way to Nathan Ampadu if I am being honest).

I would like to see an attacking three of:

----------- Cooper ------------------ Whittaker ----------
----------------------- Piroe --------------------------------

We know that Cooper will always work his socks off and Whittaker has a cannon of a left boot, he may prefer to come on to his left rather than be on the left side but Cooper can switch sides with him pretty easily.
