It's really seem like the jigsaw is coming together now. If rumours are true with Grimes wanting gone, Williams has freaked out and can't play with his favourite toy anymore. Add that to West Brom situation, new owners wanting change and fans turning against him and possibly the players. Then it's making sense.

The sad thing about it is, it's at the cost of us the fans and the club. It seems every day we have negative news. We need some positives. Somewhere, somehow.

It would appear that to get rid of LW they need the money and selling Grimes is the only way they can raise it

Why should they pay him off? He's failed and by now the club should have learned to put in a dismissal clause based on performance (after all we have sacked that many managers...)
Dismissal clauses have never been used and never would. Football is a completely different animal to standard employment

I say get rid of the players that don't want to be here. Move on and all. Williams can go next. We need a shake up.

Just playing devil's advocate here....

Could it be that maybe, just maybe, Williams has called Grimes's bluff over the last few weeks by seeing how the team performs when he isn't doing the team talks, and has reached the conclusion that his captain has undermined his authority in the dressing room, so he wants him gone?

Stranger things have happened.

It could yet be the making of us with him leaving, you just don't know how much of a problem it's been behind the scenes. Perhaps the players themselves have had a titful of Statty, padding out his own stats and doing the team talk, maybe they thought he's got too big for his boots.

Looks like we're about to find out....

Not for me.

I'd like to think this was the case.

Not sure Williams has either the balls or the brains for this.

I don’t believe in any conspiracy theories. Someone’s offered money, actual money for one of our players!
The owners of a club hemorrhaging money every week can’t resist. Grimes’ agent tells him he can get a massive pay rise and the chance to work with one of the best midfield players of modern times. He’ll take the money as the bonus for getting out of his comfort zone.

I'd agree that your theory is certainly more likely than the one that I just floated. 👍🏻

Someone on this forum called him out yesterday and I questioned that. So there might be more to this story. In no way am I defending Williams. But clearly Grimes wants a Divorce and Williams has taken it bad. Something is up. Good call to said something was wrong yesterday.
