Williams out

That depends how popular the manager is. We did go on a run of 3 wins in 23 games under Martin and there were still plenty of people who didn't think it was an issue
That run of defeats and the apathy amongst some of our fans was bizarre.

It wasn't as if we were playing exciting football and losing 4-3 each game

Hopefully it pours down on Saturday and I can get soaked to the bone after being bored to death for ninety minutes 😂

On a slightly more serious note I can't see a great deal changing until the manager changes his approach.
Williams has to change things, it's what he's paid to do, it's not working and he's going to be held to account, the clock is ticking.

What the owners should seriously consider is the fact that even more fans will become disillusioned and stop supporting. I seriously considered turning the game off last night because (a) we were clueless and (b) the manager did not have any vision on how to change it. If I'm considering turning the game off then others even more fickle than myself will just not turn up. An empty stadium with no atmosphere is the worst motivation for players and we will drop like a stone. All because the manager won't drop Grimes :)

I did turn the game off at half time. I’d rather listen to music or read a book.

What the owners should seriously consider is cutting their losses and f*****g off asap.

They’re not capable of overseeing a change for the better. Their history tells us that.

Or instruct the bugger. I would think about trying try him at no 10. He CAN shoot and he CAN pick a pass. Get him off set pieces, make Darling captain and renew his contract if he wants it, tell Grimes he's not allowed in our half - ever - and he cannot pass backwards. See what happens. Nothing probably, but this can't go on.

I had Beethoven on while watching it. A million times more drama in the music than on screen. There’s also more excitement in reading Ivor the Engine. It can’t be allowed to continue.

I think it was a combination of factors:

- Martin's footballing philosophy being seen as close to what we had previously and people's hopes that we would return to that level under his management.
- Martin's skill for bullshit and many people buying into it.
- The nature of his results. Before and after that awful run of 3 wins in 23 games, we had great runs. Not only would we win games, we'd be winning in style (the Cardiff games, Norwich away, putting 4 past Watford and Preston, etc) and those results made plenty believe success was in sight.
- Possibly most importantly, his record against Cardiff. For a significant number of people, that seems to outweigh everything else.

Williams on the other hand, fits the more standard narrative of a struggling manager. We're not exciting to watch and when we do win, it's usually by the skin of our teeth. Much easier for fans to turn on that rather than the boom or bust of Martin's tenure.

I stand by what I've said before, sacking managers is just shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic. It doesn't address the real problems in the club and is just gambling on finding a manager who can miraculously do more with less. With the irony being that such a manager would inevitably leave for a better job almost immediately, putting us back to square one.

Technically, he's comfortably one of the best players in the league, which I've always used as my defence of Grimes in the past. Physically, he's a freak, played every minute for us in the last three seasons. Athletically, he's nothing special, but that combination should be enough for him to be our best player, week in, week out.

He's been woefully mismanaged by every manager since Potter. He's a fantastic creative midfielder, who if essential, can be used to cover ground and tick the game over. Instead, he's reduced to being a #6 that has no scope or remit to move forward - and even when he can, he's fallen into a role of being far too safe.

Funnily enough, it looked like Duff of all managers had fixed him last year, he started shooting a lot more, and was looking more effective moving forward than under Martin. Luke has gotten glimpses out of him with Franco to the side, but last night was a great example of how far he's fallen when having to play with Fulton.

It's not his fault that the team use him as a Get Out Of Jail free card every match, and he's too honest to stop covering the hard yards and letting someone else do it. The whole team is so absurdly reliant on Grimes that it beggars belief. I'd love to see a stat showing how many throws he's received in the last three seasons. It's literally as though we win a throw in, and just go 'where's Matty?'.

There was one throw in last night the ref had to intervene as Grimes and an SW player were hand bagging as SW goon was trying to stop Grimes being available for the throw by holding him back. When the throw was taken, it was thrown to Grimes sprinting towards the touchline (to knock it back to the thrower, of course. Nobody else made the slightest move to make themselves available.

Dropping Grimes is only the answer if he’s ignoring his coaches and taking it upon himself to drop in between the CB’s. It can’t be that though, Shirley? It’s surely a coaching thing laid out on the training ground.

This is another common theme that annoys me, whenever we get a throw in there's nobody moving or looking to receive the ball. That's as basic as it gets, you get coached that sort of thing at park level football. Why do our players always look so clueless and devoid of ideas?

Makes me wonder what they do in training (other than pass it to Grimes), are the players not following instructions or are they not being given any instructions in the first place? Because neither of those reflect well on the coaching staff

This is my issue with Williams, as it was with Duff. They are either doing what he wants or not doing what he wants. Either way, it’s on him and needs to be changed.

I cannot for one second imagine Grimes not doing what he’s told, so this, what we see week after week, is almost certainly the preferred Williams plan.
