Agreement reached.

Keith’s site reporting today that no compo has been agreed with Southampton and that Martin has been allowed to leave.

Agreement reached!

The Reddit mob

FIRST!

Read that thread.

Negotiations basically got absolutely nowhere then and we've let him go and manage them for nothing (if true).

Reflects badly on all parties this including Martin who despite his 'heartfelt' goodbye message is party to this scam from Southampton.

Well if Southampton are holding out on the basis that an agreement had already been reached they’re probably on reasonably firm ground dragging this out.

Wow  who’d have thunk it? Hmmnnn….

An agreement was reached between which parties though?

Evidently no agreement has been reached between us and Southampton besides am agreement to let him start managing them with us receiving £0 (so far).

So the club have decided to let Martin go without agreeing on compensation, enabling us to appoint Duff in time to have a complete preseason with the team (while having no problems paying Barnsley compensation for him judging by media reports).

Seems like the right decision to be fair, as they could have prioritised getting the money over appointing a new manager. Hopefully that means they've taken expert advice and are confident they have Southampton dead to rights legally.

Some wankers in the comment section on that article. Some saying we're being pathetic and should move on, with one comparing us trying to get the full compo for Martin to Cardiff's actions over Sala!

Absolutely, I think some need to realise that we will be getting compensation for Martin, it's just going to go to tribunal, which could more than likely go very much in our favour...

I started this thread in April and everything I said is playing out accurately.

An agreement was reached for RM to go at the end of the season. I never said I knew the terms of the agreement.

If Southampton believe an agreement had been reached for Russ to go why would they offer compo? We could reasonably end up with nothing or very small consideration here.

To be fair it's a fitting epitaph for Russell's time here, a bitter ending.

MK Dons fans spelled it out too, with the exception of the few that still had a stiffy for him. A bit like here really…..

I have a feeling he might not get away with it at Southampton. Good for him if he gets them promoted but if it turns in to another series of lower mid-table finishes his trajectory of stepping up every couple of years suddenly ends. He ain’t got it, he might think he has, but he’s a long way away from being a good manager at this stage.

That shows both an absolute lack of class and someone disturbingly out of touch with reality.

When you read the article it seems pretty damning from a Southampton perspective, approaching RM with two games of the Premier League season left to run and saying that because relegation is confirmed that they should be seen as a Championship club is laughable.

Imagine getting a job at somewhere and weeks before you were due to start you show up demanding to get the employee benefits (free broadband for example) - speaking as someone who used to work for Virgin Media and BT you would be laughed out of the building.

Returning on the 14th of June when they were officially a Championship side and offering to meet his release clause in itself is evidence of tapping up RM - they couldn't possibly have known about the different release clauses for Premier League and Championship clubs without speaking with RM or his agent first. Especially with Watson leading the negotiations I cannot possibly see us telling Southampton that information.

If this goes to a tribunal I honestly can't see what leg Southampton has to stand on - if we reported it to the EFL and they were found guilty then the range of potential punishments is actually quite severe.

Maybe they won’t be allowed out at break time.

They're the ones claiming they don't have to adhere to the letter of the contract because of outside circumstances.

Itchy's point above is something I hadn't considered. If we indeed had an agreement with Martin for him to leave at the end of the season, he'd have certainly told Southampton about it, meaning they would then think they didn't have to pay any compensation to us. That would surely change things legally?

I would think that's unlikely though, there's not been a whiff of it in the media. Surely Southampton would have at least leaked it to friendly media if that was the case?

I replied to point out that if anyone was acting like Cardiff then it was Southampton, but it was still a ludicrous and tasteless comparison to make.
