Decent player for us. Failed horribly at Leeds. My bet, he’ll lose confidence quickly at Fulham and it’ll be another Leeds. Their fans will hate him. I don’t wish that on him, I dont care a toss, I just think that is the way it will roll.

That was years ago ... he was a kid. He's an established championship player now... and our captain. He will flourish

I couldn’t care less, the gnome is dead to me.

I personally feel 4m is a steal for us, hes hardly been great, and its been a joke to have him as captain as he has 0 leadership skills
The one Im worried of leaving is Roberts, he had a good euros and a lot of teams like attacking wing backs
Hopefully he wants to stay cause hes a local lad, but Rodon Mcburnie and co dont exactly have the most sensible of mates/brother and Im not sure how friendly he is with that crew

A couple of very good games, a few stand out periods but otherwise not much to write home about. Slowed down our play.
Decent enough Championship player but throughout the season he rarely rose above a rating of 6.
Should never have been captain … ruined his game.
A less able Tom Carroll.
Did we sell to balance the books or, at 26, was it a now or never move for the player?

Can’t see that happening. He was a kid when we sent him to Leeds.

He’s our biggest loss over the last couple of season and the impact of him leaving will be huge. Massively underrated and undervalued by swans fans.

Genuinely gutted about this.

Completely agree, leaves a huge gap in our midfield.

Swans fans love a bit of drama queenery aye 🙄

The price is what someone is prepared to pay, we can’t force a club to pay what we want. Some of you must think that our owners don’t bother trying to get the best prices. This football owning / managing is a piece of piss isn’t it 😂

The skill in negotiation though is very much getting people to pay what they are prepared to pay not necessarily what the offer is that is on the table

I have little doubt on this one that Fulham would have been prepared to pay more although the previously banded about £12m is as laughable as £4m is. For someone like Grimes I would have anticipated between £6m and £8m as a decent deal.

We let Rodon go on the cheap last summer (when Spurs definitely had more they were prepared to spend) and are doing the same (IMO) with Grimes. The difference with Rodon is/was we had enough to still invest in the team, at £4m we will struggle to do that effectively

You should work as a negotiating consultant on transfers Phil. Sounds like a doddle of a job.

Signs of desperation again to get funds into the club.. £4M for Grimes is undervaluing him and to go to another Championship side shows his lack of ambition as a player.

Certainly far from a doddle but I have seen first hand just what the negotiation skills of Steve Kaplan look like and both the deals have his footprint all over it.

And it always seems slightly odd that other clubs do seem to get what players are worth (and in many cases more than they are worth)

Not sure I would agree with the last bit - given Fulham's recent history there is every chance that in 12 months time he will be a Premier League player. Plus it could mean that there was no Premier League interest - or certainly no concrete interest?

I like Grimes but he is in the last year of his contract, for a player who scores a goal every 30 games or so and is seen almost universally by the fan base as a "Leon Lite" there are plenty who would argue that all the above combined means that £4m is actually a decent deal for Grimes.

I have no doubts that if he had 2+ years left on his contract we would have been fighting for double that figure, but from what I saw of Liam Walsh against Plymouth he might need a little time to get up to speed after an injury hit year last season but he has everything it takes to replace Grimes in that holding role.

I just pray that the new boss actually sees that 4 million to invest in some players of his choice.

There is every chance Fulham could bounce back but will Grimes be part of that success if they do !? We've been here before selling players to Fulham then find themselves on the fringes and sold on. But i guess £4M is very low risk for them ! For us the whole spine of the side has now gone so be interesting to see what the owners expectations are for this season. I feared when we got relegated from the Prem how long they would hang around for and now with the parachute payments ended and assets almost sold off maybe this season they walk way hopefully not leaving us in L1.

No one is saying it's a doddle, that's why those in charge of these negotiations are on the big bucks, with that comes scrutiny. If he isn't doing his job to an acceptable standard someone else will. Winter seemed a savvy operator, but not sure the same can be said about Winter at present.
