I'm all for opinions etc, but this has now been three managers in a row who all pick Grimes week after week, they must all be wrong?

100% they are all definitely wrong about letting him take the corners & free kicks!!!

Thats a good point. Over three seasons how many assists or goals from dead balls (not penalties) does he have? My guess would be no goals and very low single figure assists. He takes a bloody good penalty mind, not that there’s any chance of that these days.

Does he? Ayew was our main man on the spot kicks and we haven’t had many since he decided to leave.

Grimes must have uncompromising photos of potter, cooper and martin with a cow.

Word is he has three assists and three goals from 70+ appearances. Pretty hopeless really.

It’s hard to believe but he scored 5 goals last season.

Recognising, appreciating and admiring a top level CM is clearly something not for the passive follower of Football on here.

It seems the Grimes-bashers on here are, no matter how hard they seek to portray themselves, are not Football savvy. Clearly never played at any decent level. And are now stooping to the level of sad stattos (sad, meaning they are clueless in the application of stats, in this context) to diss the Manager's pick of captain, leader of brand Martin.

Read the broadsheets, listen to the better pundits, phone a Footballing friend (there are maybe couple on here). Get yerselves an education, before you speak. About footballing stuff.

Thers plenty of ex pro/pundits who spout total shyte, personally I like to read what our fans say, even if some of it is head scratching. At least they watch us whereas you listen to pundits talk utter crap when it comes to us.
For me, Grimes will always take care of himself...will always play it safe, lacks bitta bravery and annoys the fck outa me at times. Am always willing him to go the extra yard....he never seems too or perhaps he's just not capable. He's a mystery wrapped up in an enigma.

Never really rated Grimes that highly - a decent Championship player, nothing more, nothing less.

He can receive a pass and pass the ball on, keeps the possession ticking over...shame that the passes are very often sideways/backwards and are generally low-risk/low-reward. I suppose he fits in with what Russell wants to do here.

I don’t see a lack of bravery as an issue personally - if there is one player on the pitch willing to receive the ball at any time in any situation it is him, contrast that with someone like Ki who always made sure that there was an opposition player between him and the ball when he was needed (marking space some of our thick fans called it 😂). The only problem I have ever seen with him is decisiveness in the final third but to be fair it as tricky with Ayew wandering all over the place. He is consistently in the team for a reason.

He was more important to us last season because he was just about the only player prepared to pass and move under Cooper. A players’ player in that if you were in possession and had nowhere to go Grimes would always make himself available and get you out of trouble.

Under Martin they’re all learning to pass and move and we need more than that now from Grimes. When we were on our good run we were prepared to mix it up more and played a few longer balls as well as possession based football, it kept the opposition guessing. We’ve resorted back to early season possession for possession’s sake and the opposition will watch us pass it in front of them all day. The players need to accept that we can lose the ball trying to dissect the defence with an ambitious pass. It’s not a crime.

Part of split in opinions about Grimes is caused by his miserable performance with set piece balls. I would hazard a guess that the overall warmth towards him would be much higher if he weighed in with assists from corners and goals from direct free kicks. The question is whether we have anyone better than him in this regard, we’ve got to assume that we don’t and that RM would have changed things if we did.

He's got no dog in him. Never rallies or riles the players up. Most disappointing captain I've seen
