I thought I was dreaming the 20mph limit

Thanks, just trying to give a balanced opinion. As an aside I'm not a massive fan of this scheme, however, we are where we are, and I believe it is incumbent on all road users to make this work, and if it turns out to be a failure, then 'we' can say I told you so.

Agreed mate thanks for being voice of reason

I'm fully behind a 20mph limit in areas that need it but in my mind it would have been the councils responsibility to have this in place without any intervention from WG.

At the same time I have to wonder what the real benefit will be for anyone with the newly enforced limits. Looking at the data there would seem to be about a 10:1 ratio of all types of incident when comparing 30mph to 20mph areas but if I'm understanding correctly the amount of 20mph road is moving from 2.5% to 35% or a 14x increase in 20mph road.

I know this isn't an exact science but by that reckoning I would think at the very best a proportion of the incidents will move to the 20mph areas and I'm not really seeing much of a benefit from it all. This might suggest that the councils might have got it right in the first place.

What am I missing?
Here's the thing, the council, have and do spend a lot of money on speed reduction schemes, and guess what, folk dont like then in general, you see it inconveniences them going about their busy lives. Like I've stated we will only see the results of this 20mph limit after year one.👍

Oh crikey what a chap you are. I literally have held my hands up.

It’s a cesspit on here, I always forget this and come back. Why? Waste of time, I’ve got far better things to be doing.

Just cliquey beyond words, I don’t happen to give a crap about “bedfellows” darling. I just say it as I see it and I’ll hold my hands up if I’m wrong. Your comment shows your tribal ways, which is something I’ve always highlighted. If this was a Tory policy I guarantee you’d be against it. That’s who you are a tribal numpty without any critical thinking.

I haven’t posted for ages but I’ve read threads and the same trends happen time and time again. It’s a horrible forum

Hang about now, you just posted a load of nonsense to me, and now you don’t like me replying to it? That’s not how it works chap, and you know that.

You’ve just dug yourself into a big hole and now you’re flailing about trying to get out of it. Save your tears for the next election day, you’re going to need them.

Yes you’re right so want Rishi to win. I’m a huge fan…!

Nevermind I’ll be voting labour. I don’t have the time or the inclination to bother chatting anymore. You just don’t get it.

"Wales' ambulance service will also be restricted to a maximum speed of 40mph (65km/h), rather than 50mph (80km/h), on 20mph (30km/h) roads, it has emerged, as policy means drivers are limited to going 20mph over the limit."

"... officers with the highest level of training were not restricted on speed when responding to emergencies, but "drivers who have a reduced level of training will drive to a maximum speed of 20mph above the posted the speed limit".

Research on the 20 mph zones in London don’t suggest they’re bad for the environment. Where have you seen evidence that they are?

Bad driving is undoubtedly an issue, but I’d be interested to know if there is evidence it’s worse for the environment. I see in London quite a lot is made of more people moving to walking/cycling/public transport. I bet that won’t translate to here in Wales. In Swansea you take your life in your hands as a cyclist, the buses are shoite and it’s no fun walking miles in the rain!

Now this I am on board with. It's all very well saying that a benefit of 20mph roads in a city like London will lead to more people using public transport, cycling, walking. But London is pretty well set up for cyclists and while I know their public transport is far from perfect, it's light years ahead of what we have down here.

Bus services have been slashed, especially to more remote areas, while trains are shockingly expensive and don't cover a lot of areas. If the WG really want to see more people using public transport, then they are going to need to invest a lot of money. Which isn't going to happen.

In the interests of fairness, taken from the same article:

But Mr Travis subsequently told Radio Wales Breakfast that the rule change would cause "no discernible difference" to response times.

"We already have 20mph limits within Wales which we already observe and respond to. Whilst this is new in terms of the scale this is not new in terms of ways of working.

"Actually, sometimes the road being slower makes it easier for emergency service vehicles to make progress. It's easier to pass a slower vehicle than a faster vehicle."

The council have finally unveiled the 20 mph signs at the bottom of Mayals. Someone tooted their horn at me driving up because I was doing 20. I don't know how to feel. I absolutely empathise with their frustration that this important commuter road has had a draconian measure imposed. For the life of me I do not know why the council have not applied for an exemption. Mumbles road has stayed at 30 from Blackpill all the way in to the village and Sketty and Gower road are 30.

Selective quoting eh. Imagine that.

That can't be right, I keep being told that Wales has a blanket 30mph speed limit.

Yeah, they weren’t ready for the change. It’s still 20 mph going out through Kittle and 30 mph coming back (at least it was this morning).

I’ve been driving up Clyne Hill up the arse of people doing 20, I haven’t tooted anyone though

People will get used to it and eventually the signage will be right. Unless this petition changes anything (what a bunch of melts!), but I doubt it.

I have to say it’s made sod all difference to my journey times, as expected, and I much prefer it when out and about as a pedestrian. But I guess it all depends where you live, where you go and when.

I travel from Mumbles to the DVLA and I just leave 15 minutes earlier in the morning and the journey is taking roughly the same length of time. I take a different route now and most of the way now is 30,40 and 50 with short stretches of 20. I stick to the limits and it’s no big deal. Still some clowns on the road though.🙄

If you're just talking about moving a proportion of the 30mph zone incidents to the 20mph zone as numbers, what you may be missing is the severity of the accidents?

What time do you leave now and what route did you take and are now taking?
I have changed my route depending on whether I am going to west or east Wales. Today was an absolute nightmare going through dunvant and gowerton but if I left 15 minutes earlier then I would not have been engulfed in school traffic. I saw a huge queue behind me when I was driving up Mayals on my way home.
