I thought I was dreaming the 20mph limit

Reducing speed saves lives. That’s a simple fact.

I go back to it. Why not make motorways 50mph and my point stands “idiots” won’t change.

Bad driving is far more of an issue. Tailgating is a huge problem.

You don’t get many pedestrians on motorways see. But plenty of stretches of motorway already have lower limits. Another little factoid, as counterintuitive as it sounds initially, is that going slower often means you get where you’re going quicker.

I haven't smoked for 6 or 7 years now mate, no alcohol for about 4 years either. I've pretty much qualified as a monk now

In others words you have now become a complete bore

I suppose the road deaths stats don’t matter then. Keep going

Motorways have far more undesirable outcomes than built up areas. So if speed kills lower speeds.

The point is mate you know it’s a fair point but you can’t respond. If you were serious about this you’d lower limits everywhere have speed limiters, have speed cameras everywhere more cops etc.

As I said originally in isolation of course it’s fuckin safer. Any dummy can see that. But it’s not as simple as that and deep down you know this.

And for the last time this was sold as an environmental policy which was quickly dropped. It’s bad for the environment which I happen to believe strongly in and the usual suspects on here who would normally be all over that conveniently let that one slide.

There are more people killed or seriously injured on 30mph roads than 70mph roads. By a long, long way. Silly Billy.

It really wasn’t. It was sold as a road safety measure with environmental benefits. Read the consultation document. Have some FAQs.

Really? Injured I can believe by simple volume. But fatalities really? If I’m wrong I’ll hold my hands up

More cats and hedgehogs will survive at 20mph so that's a win 👍

“Approximately two-thirds of all crashes in which people are killed or injured happen on roads with a speed limit of 30mph or less.”

In Wales in 2022 - Killed or seriously injured:

30mph roads - 421
70 mph roads - 58

Fair enough, you’ve got me on that and as I say hold my hands up.

However I bet within those stats the vast majority was complete c””ts driving at obscene speeds far in excess of 30mph or idiotic driving

But yes 👏 completely wrong on that.

Research on the 20 mph zones in London don’t suggest they’re bad for the environment. Where have you seen evidence that they are?

Bad driving is undoubtedly an issue, but I’d be interested to know if there is evidence it’s worse for the environment. I see in London quite a lot is made of more people moving to walking/cycling/public transport. I bet that won’t translate to here in Wales. In Swansea you take your life in your hands as a cyclist, the buses are shoite and it’s no fun walking miles in the rain!
