There were no martyrs pre 1948. No Islamic terrorism either. In fact the Arabs thanked the west for freeing them from the subjugation of the Ottoman Empire.

I don't know a great deal about the relationship between them all, but I agree with this post it seems very fair, I don't think many of the Israelian people think much of Netanyahu, but some of his actions could be suggested that he see's his actions as away of making himself more popular, but then again I don't know a great deal about his relationship with his people.

But this situation needs to be resolved rapidly, its likely to have dire consequences for the whole of the region Hamas leader saying things like he wants to get rid of the Jews and the Christians is dangerous talk and it'll be lapped up, buy many in the region.

I fear we are about to see a whole lot more than that - it’s already reached over 5000 dead and that includes some 30 UN relief workers. That man should be on trial in The Hague

We must be watching different Western media because the BBC can't even bring themselves to call Hamas as terrorists which they undoubtedly are.

However, if you rewrote your sentence as "The Western media is in full swing, painting all Hamas as monsters and deserving of the retribution about to be cast on them," then I would definitely agree.

In the interests of harmony on this thread, let's try to get some common ground.

The state of Palestine deserves to exist
The state of Israel also deserves to exist.
Israel is entitled to defend itself.
The murder of 1,000 + Israeli people by Hamas is a war crime.

Do we all agree on that?

The beeb are trying to be impartial - the U.S. media and the murdoch press are certainly doing that. I applaud your balance - the Palestinians and Israelis need to coexist peacefully. That can never happen though while the Israeli government treats their Palestinian population like intruders who have no rights. It was called apartheid in South Africa and it’s a similar if not identical situation now.

The ideal world is no partitioned areas - people all mixed in together, synagogues, mosques and churches side by side etc etc. it actually used to be like that once in the region.

I agree wholeheartedly with this. The whole situation is profoundly tragic and the entire debate surrounding it is very depressing. The fact that it seems to be impossible to criticise Israel’s disproportionate response without being labelled a hater of Jewish people is very troubling. Ditto criticising Hamas’ as terrorists, which they clearly are, apparently makes you an inhuman bastard. What’s happening in Gaza is beyond comprehension but there’s no sensible middle ground it seems.
