January Transfer Rumours

Adam Phillips from Barnsley on our radar according to Pete O’Rourke - not sure how good a source he is.

We're eleven days in to the window and not one signing.

What drives me insane about Coleman and Williams is at the end of every window they like to tell the fans how they are already working on the next window and have targets lined up.

If this were really the case, surely we would have at least one new player through the door by now.

Thus far, according to Sky Sports, there have been Fourteen incoming players to Championship teams during the January window. Sixteen outgoing (may include to other clubs in the division). Twelve teams have signed nobody at all, including us.

The first couple of weeks of January are always quiet. The problem with transfer windows is that clubs tend to wait for the first big move, the one that starts all the other dominos falling. A situation probably made worse by the fact that the window covers not just the EFL, but most other European leagues.

Most business is done in the last week. Especially the last day. Bonkers, but that's what transfer windows bring you. Panic and inflated prices. Frankly I'd do away with them completely.

January is always notoriously slow and pretty quiet for the majority of clubs.

My major gripe with our club is the constant chat at the end of each window that they're working hard on recruits for the next window only for us to wait until the last minute to make panic signings.

If they just kept quiet and didn't feel the need to throw the fans a bone, I guess the frustrations with our transfer activity or lack of it wouldn't be such an issue.

I get that, but if they said nothing no doubt they'd cop pelters for that too. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Personally I'd prefer that they kept quiet until a deal was done.

If they are working so hard on targets in-between windows, where are they? It can give the impression of incompetence.

I'd prefer they kept quiet. I like the way Liverpool operate in the transfer marker, say nowt and sign a player within 24hrs of being interested.

Because it takes two clubs to agree a transfer deal. We can have all our targets lined up and bids made on January 1st. Makes no difference if the sellers want to play hardball. Wycombe no doubt want to maximise their income on Low, which is their right. Means we might have to wait or haggle more.

Signing a player within 24 hours of being interested? Like we did with Vig?

Sorry, don't buy that.

The negations can go on between two clubs whilst the window is closed.

Smurf, you seem to be ever more detached from the realities of contemporary footy stuff.
Get with the program, mun - whether it's the role of stats, the role of captaincy, the roles and responsibilities of our leading edge global sourcing model/process, etc.
It's not difficult to grasp, just keep up.

Thanks for the pep talk, Professor Football 👍🏼
