January Transfer Rumours

Who in the current squad would we get decent money for? Removing any fan bias, I don't think anyone would pay more than about £5m for any of our players.

The quality of the playing squad is deteriorating year on year so we're going to find it more and more difficult to be compliant with the current PSR regulations because we just don't have the quality assets to sell to make up the shortfall

Don't forget that Abdulai is the next Jude Bellingham......

I think we'd get around that, if not higher, for Cabango, Franco (particuarly in another year), and an under-contract Darling. Key would probably go for a decent fee, and there's decent sell-on value for Eom, Bianchini, and Vipotnik, but that's probably dependent on their form until the end of next season.

As much as fans would be shocked, Grimes would fetch over £5m, too

Franco is the only £5m+ player we have IMO. I’d be fuming if we paid that sort of money for any of our current players.

Cabango is an average Championship level defender. No shame in that but I don't see anyone offering more than £5m for him.

Franco possibly but it's far too early to say. He needs to prove he can play more than an hour a week first.

We don't have an under contract Darling unfortunately.

Key could possibly be sold for a decent fee but not this summer, he'd need to back it up with another good season next year.

Eom, Bianchini and Vipotnik have scored 6 league goals between them all season.

Grimes will be 30 in the summer, if nobody's bothered trying to buy him up until now, I doubt they'll be interested once he's the wrong side of 30.

This is what I mean, the squad has very little value in terms of potential transfer fees. It makes so much sense to bring through quite a few of the youngsters, many of whom are too good for the level of football they're playing at the moment

This is exactly why we should be developing those coming through from the academy.
Wilson, Govea, Parker , N'Zingo & Lissah could all bank us hefty profit if we develop them properly.

And of those 4 players (you can add in Ben Lloyd) they have a total of 0 minutes of senior football this mid table season (albeit there have been injury issues). Does my head in.

Maybe Williams needs to leave him on the field when he looks like he's doing ok, and put Fulton in one of those Indiana Jones crates and lose him in the artifacts storage of Cairo Museum?

I’d like to see us bring Abdulai on in CM when Franco/Allen goes off, not bringing him on to play on the fucking wing.
Reckon he’s not up to it, especially under this grossly incapable coach.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see him loaned out.

(Re Sheez, yes he’s a far better immediate alternative (also in the way he seems to be a trusted ally, to the many))

Edit - this is the 401st post on this thread - and is only one of a handful of actual ‘rumours’ !?

Cabango is an average Champ defender, but he's 24 and plays for Wales. He'd be around the £5m I'd imagine.

Grimes I was purely valuing based on the Summer when there was a bit of chat about him being linked with Sheffield United, people at the time thought he'd go for around 7/8m. Even at 30, captain of the club on a long term deal would overprice him as an asset.

The new trifecta of new guys are definitely all in the air, but the idea would be that they certainly have potential for going for a decent fee

Since we sold McBurnie and James for decent money in 2020, our only >£5m player sales over the last 5 years have been Piroe (£12m), Downes (£9m) and Rodon (£10m).

I really don't think any other clubs will be interested in Eom, Bianchini or Vipotnik at the moment. Eom has shown glimpses of talent but if a club are going to spend that sort of money on an attacker, they'll expect to be getting someone who contributes with goals and assists, which Eom hasn't managed to do so far.

That's not to say he won't come good, just that I doubt clubs are going to be looking at shelling out good money for a player who's got 0 goals and 1 assist in 18 league games.

As has been said though, it would be interesting to see how those players would perform under a different manager playing a different system. Piroe and Paterson have been the only attackers to produce consistent goals and assists for us over the last few years, possibly as a result of the possession based tactical setup?
