People jailed for online comments were naive/stupid/ poorly advised to plead guilty. Jones got a good KC and took the jury trial option. Racists are notoriously stupid.

Yup. Lucy the Patriot Hero and the other all pleaded guilty and were sentenced accordingly. This fella pleaded not guilty, there was a trial and he was acquitted. That’s not a comment on whether he should have been acquitted or not, I wasn’t on the jury.

`Indeed. Nor have any of us sat though the proceedings. Of course the 'patriots' are losing it on social media crying two tier justice. He was arrested, charged and tried having chosen to please not guilty. Rapid unanimous jury design suggest he made a strong case

It would be interesting to know what evidence the defence produced to nullify the video the prosecution obviously showed.

Especially after he’s acknowledged that his comments were ill advised.

Ultimately it comes down to ALL the evidence produced not the short clips on social media. The burden is on the CPS to show unequivocally there is enticement to cause disorder. Plead guilty and there is not.

Wow, quite shocking to be honest. If that’s the defence, I never meant it literally. Not that I want this chap jailed,

Let’s face it, if saying that comments made were never meant to be taking literally, then surely people spending time behind bars, were not legally represented properly, therefore one has to say that their convictions are unsafe.

Please don’t upset them now pal.

I wouldn’t do that, but it’s just my thoughts that this ruling, has surely set a precedent for so called online hate speech.

I’m not sticking up for anyone here, like I said I don’t want this Ricky to serve time.

Just makes you think what is worse verbally shouting stuff like that, or typing on a pc stuff like that.?

Or pleading guilty and not going to trial, or pleading not guilty and leaving it up to a jury.

It’s not a ruling, it’s a verdict from a jury who heard all the evidence and took less than half an hour to decide on that verdict. Lucy the Patriot didn’t have a trial because she pleaded guilty. She admitted to she did it. It was a fair cop guv. I done it and no mistake. If Lucy the Patriot had been confident of her innocence she could have pleaded not guilty and taken her chances with a jury like this fella did.

But that was my point about poorly represented Legally, if what the BBC article says is true, then all they had to do was say not guilty, and then went to trial say I never meant it literally.

On the basis of what the bbc article says, then if you want fair play, then surely all the online hate speech convictions and custody, must be deemed unsafe.

They have pleaded guilty to something, that in a similar case has been proven to be not guilty!
