Summer Transfer Window

I’d be surprised if Diouf or Santos would be seen as starters for us. Both would be free and I’d expect us to spend at least something on a replacement for Darling

I really hope Ricardo Santos link is just "papertalk" because that is the type of signing that will have us heading straight for L1

372 career games at L1 and below and no club has given him an opportunity in the Championship and we want to sign him on a free!!

Even as a back up / Squad player it's a no from me, we need back-up players to be pushing the starters for their place not just making up the numbers.

If there is one player we can afford to let go and who can command a fee, that player is Jerry Yates. He has averaged exactly 10 league goals over the past 4 Championship seasons, with 3 assists on average too. In each of the past three seasons he's been the leading goalscorer with his club. His 10 goals last season would have been enough to make him the leading goalscorer with QPR in each of the previous 3 seasons.

Does this make Yates a great player? Not at all, but equally his record over 4 Championship seasons has been one of consistent, average to slightly above average performance. For clubs whose primary concern is staying in the league that is a desirable commodity. Given he has only a year left on his contract we may not get much more than a million for him, but we shouldn't look to offload him on the cheap either. Championship goalscorers are valuable, even average ones.

A bit OTT suggesting a squad player would have us heading back to league one. By your logic no team should sign league one players regardless of their pedigree. Signing experienced centre backs from Championship clubs will not come cheap in transfer fees and wages. We simply don't have the financial leeway to have consistent quality throughout the squad.

The owners definitely have the money to sign experienced center backs from the championship, they just choose not to. We are talking about multi multi millionaires here not Huw Jenkins.

Santos is a strange one sorry! Hopefully just agent/paper talk.
An example of a L1 player, Cameron Humphreys of Rotherham is also out of contract this summer and is 26yrs of age with experience in the championship.

It's not they choose not to, it's because Financial Fair Play rules prevent them from doing so.

Unless they significantly increase our revenues, we are not going to be able to spend bigger money, unless we fancy a fine and/or points deductions. It's as simple as that.

Darling is clearly gone. That leaves us with Cabango and Lissah at CB. We need one quality starting player there at least and I don't think anyone is suggesting Santos would be that kind of signing.

I wouldn't be too confident with him taking Delcroix's spot as first reserve CB either. But if Sheehan thinks Lissah is nowhere near ready and would be better going out on loan, then a 29-year old free transfer with plenty of experience and multiple seasons in the L1 team of the year as our 4th choice CB would be absolutely fine.

Edit: I'd actually be fine with the lad from the Swiss club as 3rd choice if the recruitment team and Sheehan think he has potential, as long as two free transfers as backup gives us the financial flexibility to recruit a quality player to start most weeks alongside Cabango.

Would be sorry to see him leave, but if we could get £10 million for him that could strengthen us in several areas.

That Lukas Hogsberb could be an interesting one. 18 year old centre back with some impressive stats from a single full season in the Danish top flight.
