• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

First White-Tailed Eagle hatches in Southern England for over 240 years.

Quite a milestone.

Great photo. Remarkable looking birds, those eyes! I've spent quite a few hours watching them over the marshes and salt lagoons just to the west and north of Faro Airport as well as other parts of the Algarve. Also seen a few in southern Spain too including a pair on a nest on top of a pylon!

It has recently been revealed that a pair of Glossy Ibises became the first to successfully breed in the UK last year but its precise location is still not being revealed in case they return in the near future - although they didn't this year.

They have been regular visitors to the various reserves in my patch just north of Glastonbury (Shapwick Heath, Ham Wall & Westhay Moors) and I have seen them regularly over the last decade or so, even in winter but they have never bred. This particular one flew from behind me over my head and landed no more than about 10 metres in front of where I was sitting in Ham Wall Reserve on Christmas Eve 2016!

Magnolia Warbler in Baglan again today.

Something to do with Hurricane Lee striking the south west last Tuesday coinciding with normal migration time for many bird species but the Magnolia Warbler seen in Baglan and the Red-Eyed Vireo seen at Sker Point were just part of the biggest influx of American landbirds into the UK & Ireland in recorded history during the last week or so. Apparently 50+ North American birds of 15 different species were spotted.

That’s amazing.
Or is it to do with Darran’s alien 👽 friends just messing around with us?
😉
