My son just sent me this photo of a heron which landed on the path outside the window.

Amazing! Being out in the wilds here, we've had biggish things like a Grey Heron or 2 and several Common Buzzards land in our garden over the years but nothing quite like a Golden Eagle! I think our cat would hide under a bed somewhere. :D
 
Took this many years ago, obviously not a wild one, but watching it fly was amazing.

Meant to post this recent pic but forgot. A few weeks ago at the tail end of November, I went to Portugal just for the day, and while I was sitting on a bench having a sandwich, in the nearby reeds I spotted this little chap which goes by the wonderful name of a Squacco Heron and has matching green beak and legs.
