If it's a loan deal for Hourihane it depends how much of the wage we're covering. A contribution towards it perhaps, but probably not all.

Be surprised if it's a permanent move.

Think it’s a loan until end of season Doc

Seems like the ideal player to bring in. Obviously quality at this level. Experienced and a goal threat.

As good as MGW promised to be, maybe this could be even more suitable.

Contract out at the end of the season means he’ll be motivated to impress for his next move

Seen a note that we’re looking at Jordan Morris a forward from Seattle Sounders. A 1/3 goal record in the MLS, normally a winger but can play CF. Maybe see a bit of the same as Lowe in him. Current US international, so maybe not a realistic option but 10 goals in 39 caps is decent

Hourihane will be a loan.
His contract runs out at end of season with Villa so could be a good opportunity for him and ourselves.

Watters going to Cardiff by the looks, gives us the push to go all in for Jephcott now.

I know the links with America etc but he looks good, good record at international level and a loan for rest of season would make sense. Can’t see an issue with permits either

Some dorks on Twitter suggesting Hourihane to Cardiff.

It’s like Roberto when he went to Wigan all over again with his dossier

C’mon Luton, Cardiff and Huddersfield tomorrow!

Oops wrong whatsit.

Swansea signing this 27-year-old League One star would be a sensible move

Why Swansea City signing Aaron Pierre would bolster their backline
According to claims from Football Insider (h/t Wales Online), Swansea City are weighing up a move for Shrewsbury Town centre-back Aaron Pierre in the January transfer window.

As per the report, the Swans are on the lookout for a new central defender during the mid-season trading period after losing Joe Rodon to Tottenham in the summer. Pierre has caught the eye for Shrewsbury in League One this season, emerging as a potential target for Steve Cooper’s side.

Pierre started his footballing education at Fulham before completing his development at Brentford, where he made only a handful of first-team appearances. The centre-back spent time on loan at Cambridge United and Wycombe Wanderers in the Football League, joining the latter on a permanent deal in 2014.

The Grenadian international made over 100 appearances for Wycombe in League Two and had a brief stint at Northampton Town before joining Shrewsbury Town in 2019. He featured 37 times in his debut season last term and has come to the fore with a string of impressive displays in the third-tier in the ongoing campaign.

The 27-year-old has been a standout performer for Steve Cotterill’s side this term, starting 18 fixtures in League One so far. Besides his solid displays at the back, Pierre has also contributed with 4 goals, including the winner in a man-of-the-match performance against Doncaster Rovers back in December.

Meanwhile, Swansea City are flying high in the Championship after an impressive first half of the campaign. Currently placed 2nd in the standings, just 4 points adrift of pace-setters Norwich City, the Swans have established themselves as one of the prime contenders for automatic promotion.

While they have managed just 27 goals in 23 games so far, Swansea’s sparkling run of form in the second-tier has been built on a rock-solid backline. Cooper’s side boast of the best defensive record in the division with just 13 goals conceded. That should ideally rule out the need to bring in defensive reinforcements this month.

Having said that, however, Swansea can certainly do with a bit more cover in the centre-back department heading into a crucial and hectic second half of the season. Rodon’s departure has left Cooper a tad light in his options at the heart of the defence.

Ben Cabango, Marc Guehi and Ryan Bennett have all shown great consistency in the manager’s preferred three-man defence. But the lack of quality alternatives could be a problem for the Welsh outfit in the coming months.

With Bennett recently picking up a knock and youngster Joel Latibeaudiere very much a peripheral figure, the acquisition of Aaron Pierre would definitely be a smart piece of business for the Swans.

The 27-year-old has been quite brilliant for Shrewsbury in League One and has more than enough experience in the Football League to add more depth and cover to Swansea’s backline.

Verdict
Aaron Pierre hasn’t played in the Championship before but Swansea City can be hopeful of him making the step up to this level with so many games under his belt in League One and League Two.

Having said that, the powerful centre-back should be more than worth a punt for Cooper’s side before the January deadline as they look to secure a return to the top-flight.

Do we need another CB unless injuries to Bennett, Latibeaudiere and Naughton are more serious than reported?

Ex-Liverpool youngster Yan Dhanda attracting interest from Bournemouth and Leeds after impressing at Swansea - while Marseille, Atalanta and RB Leipzig are also keeping tabs on him

Source: Mail Online

Swansea City midfielder Yan Dhanda is attracting interest from Bournemouth and Leeds United.

The 22-year-old had to bide his time for a run of games in Steve Cooper's side but has proved influential recently in their push for promotion which currently sees them second in the Championship table.

A former England U17 international, Dhanda joined Swansea from Liverpool to play more regularly and admitted before Christmas that he had had a number of one-to-one chats with Cooper about getting his chance.

Elsewhere, Swansea are in talks to sign winger Jordan Morris from Seattle Sounders and want another forward as Cooper looks to increase competition for places.

That has alerted rival clubs looking for the creative spark and pace that Dhanda provides.

Bournemouth are weighing up options as they prepare to lose Aston Villa target David Brooks and have watched Dhanda closely for a couple of years. Likewise Leeds are aware of his capabilities and could have room should they lose Tyler Roberts this month.

One of only 10 British Asians among around 4,000 professional footballers in the United Kingdom, Dhanda also opens the door to a broader commercial market for clubs as a role model for aspiring players in the Asian community.

Clubs abroad are also monitoring developments though following his accomplished displays.

Marseille, Red Bull Leipzig and Atalanta are showing interest in Dhanda who has made 14 appearances this season and scored one goal.

Though Swansea would be reluctant to lose him, the knock-on effects of the Covid pandemic mean they are working within increasingly limited financial constraints and reasonable offers have to be considered.

He's nowhere near the finished article. But if anything over £5 million is offered that's good business for a guy who isn't really certain of a starting XI spot

Mail reporting that Leeds and Bournemouth are interested in Dhanda.
Marseille, Atlanta and Leipzig are also interested.... Begs the question how he is not a regular when so many good clubs are looking at him.
