Whatever your thoughts on Grimes….

Suppose it depends who the new manager is.

Too many players have been derided by our support and deemed "shite" yet have gone on to other clubs and done well for us to disregard the idea that coaching has been our biggest problem.

Personally I desperately want us to move on from the generation of managers who all seem to want to pretend to be Pep. There are signs in the PL and abroad that that kind of football is slowly dying and it'd be nice to be on the forefront of that revolution.

That's a fair point and it's the opposite to how it used to be. We used to be the ones picking up the shite players from elsewhere and turning them into world beaters.

I don't trust Coleman to get the appointment right. I don't think we have the money to get anyone decent. I don't think anyone decent would particularly want to come here.

I'd like to see us bring someone in to preside over a change for a couple of years but I just don't see it happening. I don't think we are the right club at the moment for a young, inexperienced manager. The likes of Martinez and Rodgers would never have succeeded here under the current regime.

I also don't think it can be solely attributed to the coaching. There's no plan from the top down.

I have no personal beef with Coleman. I hope he does well. He's committed more to our future endeavours than most.

But...We need to do better than we are. I've got no problem with moving on a timewasting dosser like Grimes, but we need to have secured a replacement beforehand. Likewise with Williams.

He almost walked on a free a few years back until he realised not other club wanted him.
Does nobody remember the little asides when Martin went to Southampton? Going on about what a great club they were. Pretty sure he thought Martin would come in for him, must have been demoralising for the silly bugger to have to backtrack! Now let's give the armband to someone vocal, like Franco for instance.

Just listened to Twitter live podcast from Only Swans. They are saying Grimes is the only player who is able to get us out of any situation. Jesus Wept.

You listen to Sky Sports. Every game its mentioned how he's, in essence, our messiah. The media are responsible for his ego amongst others.

I didn't hear that. No way. Well I shouldn't be suprised. Yes Grimes is not the sole reason we lose, and Williams tactics has alot to do with this. But I want no player who is a captain who has 0 voice on the field. Example, Tymon throw in, Grimes received it, Tymon had it back and then it went out. Grimes looked disinterested. Same as other passes. 0 reaction in last game and many, many others. Swansea Independent lorded over his off field captaincy
, but I could care less. It didn't show on the pitch. No turning back now for him.

Oh I have to disagree on this one. Every window he has or be that his agent flirted with going. He has stayed yes, and could be seen as commited, but would have gone if a high fee would come in. Little loyalty in football. Nearly 30 years old, this might be the last chance we cash in.
This is revisionist nonsense

Again do your research before calling people out. Is this not a discussion board? Don't leave such comments without backing your own theory and we can discuss. I'm aloud to have my opinion. Anyone can throw rocks but it takes a bigger man to stand his ground. Also let's say I am wrong, then again discuss. What a ridiculous comment to leave.

I wholeheartedly agree. I’ve never understood the way our fans tag our own players as shite, and I got ridiculed for saying Williams is a copy and paste manager and that the alarm bells should be ringing earlier in the season.

Ah. Now I understand.

This ^. I’ve been highly critical of Coleman, but it’s nothing personal at all. The last 18/20 months since he’s been here have been awful. It might not be all his fault and do he deserves more time now he’s an owner, but ‘we’ simply have to do better in all aspects of the club. As he seems to be mostly in charge, ‘we’ means him.

Back to the title of ‘whatever your thoughts on Grimes’ (and we can go round all day), what worries me more than him leaving is why is he leaving. Why now after not long ago he signed a new deal and said he wanted to see his career out here? Why doesn’t Darling want to sign a new deal? Why did it take a lot of work by the players to convince Cabango to stay at his boyhood club?

These aren’t players who are moving up, their options are sideways. Is it purely money? Or is it a sign that things are such a mess behind the scenes that even long-serving players have had enough?

It's this for me. I couldn't really care less that Grimes the player is leaving and had this been the summer, under a new manager, I think things would have been different.

I guess you would question why a bloke who has three very young kids and his whole family living close by (apparently) would decide to up sticks at this stage in his career to a similar club to us. If it was about the money I am sure he would have pushed for a move, and got one, long before now.

At the start of the month, he posted a gushing message on his personal Instagram account about the club on his 10 year anniversary. This wasn't a puff piece on the Swans account and seems very unusual to do if his head was turned at that point.

Whatever the reasons, it doesn't suggest things at the club are going well. Which the results are backing up too.
