Done my end of year homework and have come up with Barnsley’s Reyes Cleary as my no1 target for January.

It seems like the scouts search sheet should look like the following (regardless of the player position):

section A:
1. Is he strong?
2. Is he fast?
3. Is he tall?
4. Can he jump?

If all the answers to the sub-sections in A are “Yes”, move to section B.

Section B:
Can he play football?

I know that players like that are more of a wishful thinking because they play in the PL, but EG and Tymon (to some extent) are good examples of players with the required abilities.

If course i took it to the extreme but if you look at our squad, most of them are slow (Key, Cabango, VIP and more) or light-weighted (all of our wingers to start with) or both (Cullen). There is a major room for improvement in that area.

EG is strong and fast.. and ask K.moore if he can jump. 🙂

He’s really not though.

He’s a very good player but neither strong nor fast compared to those that are.

There’s a difference between being nippy and having quick feet and being fast.

I’m struggling to think of a genuinely fast player we have at the moment. Ronald is quite quick without the ball and Tymon is faster than he looks. whether that matters I’m not sure, speed of thought is probably more important.

Who was it that said however fast you are you can’t outrun the ball? Moving the ball quickly is our best weapon going forward.

This is a good point. Even Inoussa who has some pace isn’t rapid. It makes you appreciate players like Dan James all the more. It’s been ages since we’ve had a winger who can knock the ball past someone and run. Don’t know who it was on here but somebody mentioned that all our wingers like to have the ball to feet and that is very true.

Thing with Galbraith is that he is quick enough when he needs to be. Pace alone isn't enough though how many fast players don't have the nous to do much else than run fast. As @Londonlisa2001 said speed of thought is the key (and our Key lacks this).

The best players are the mentally strong ones, by mentally strong I mean that they have football intelligence like speed of thought and ability to read the game add this to good physical attributes (pace, power, jumping etc) and you get a very good player.

The manager has to understand what his players are capable of and blend all this together, we need more players that are natural footballers (like Galbraith) rather than athletes who are taught football.

Dan James was incredible.

Dyer was very quick.
Montero as well,

Sinclair was quick.

I’m struggling to think of too many more recently. None of the forwards. Nor full backs. Actually Celina was quite quick.

We’re not a counter attacking team though so it isn’t the most important bit.

Idah looks like he may be quick but haven’t really seen him stretch out.

Dan James still is incredible, I go to most Leeds games he has lost none of his speed and come on leaps and bounds as a player (could be a bit better crossing mind), Bielsa was a big fan of his and he knows a player.

If Idah is quick, I fear he lacks the mental attributes to be a decent player.

I’d give him time.

His positioning to capitalise on the keeper’s mistake on Friday was clever. He stepped slightly back so he couldn’t have a foul given against him.

Wash your mouth out about the Leeds thing btw!!

I met someone last week in the park when taking my dog out whose dog was called Mot because he was a Leeds fan (the bloke that is, not the dog - the dog looked more tasteful than that).
