Benda

Spot on, I’m sure Fisher wouldn’t have made the mistakes he has if he was instructed to lump it up the field instead of being told to play it short every single time. I do kind of feel for the lad, he’s been dropped, another keeper has come in, given different instructions and done very well. But then sometimes you’ve got to go against your instructions and just get rid of it, he didn’t do it against Stoke, we got punished and he’s lost his place. I’m sure if he had got rid of it and we came away from that game with 3 points, he would have started today. I’m looking forward to seeing how Benda fairs now moving forward.

Sorry don’t buy the Fischer just following orders. Needs to grow a pair if that’s the case. Good shot stopper but just doesn’t boss the box.

I totally agree with you, as I said, sometimes you just have to take it upon yourself to do what’s right, and what’s right was lumping the ball up the pitch, he didn’t do that and he’s paid the price.

Whatever the merits of either keeper or RM's instructions, Benda was good yesterday so IMO should keep the shirt until he's either injured or deserves to be dropped. Same goes for other players in other positions.

Maybe we should give Martin the benefit of the doubt and assume that he decided to play a different way and felt that Benda was the best keeper for the new tactics?

Bends is the better keeper, whatever tactics he wants us to play, IMO.

We have undoubtedly made Fisher look worse than he is with the way we've dicked around at the back for much of the season, but equally undoubtedly Benda was a keeper of significant potential who we shouldn't have cast aside for more than a year based on a foolish game plan.

If we back SB now and allow him to gain even more experience we'll be stronger for it. His distribution was also pretty good yesterday.

Completely agree, Benda earned rave reviews when he went on a season long loan at Swindon (I think? Someone correct me if I got the wrong club). Even during our sticky start last season his ability as a shot stopper was easy to see and what he really needed was either experience or being on the sidelines watching first hand how RM wanted his keeper to play.

I've said in a few other posts that in my opinion Benda is superior to Fisher in all aspects except for experience and it looks like he has took plenty of lessons to heart over these 13 months. I have high hopes for him going forward.

Quality player, lost count how many points AF has cost us either through poor execution or poor tactics. Both are young keepers so hopefully will spur each other on. Well done RM for having the bollocks to drop AF

Confidence is everything for a young keeper and we shouldn’t be surprised if our two feel the heat a little. That’s not their fault as it stems from playing in a way that sees them exposed regularly. They need an arm put around them, Fisher in particular, and a defence that isn’t being coached football chicken with the ball.

Am I the only one that feels a bit sorry for Fish, Benda comes in and gets to ditch the faffing around the back routine straight away. Makes you wonder if we should have kept Hamer if the only thing keeping him out was the fact he wasn't compsed when passing out to the defenders!

I do feel sorry for Fisher but he hasn't been dropped because of the goal kick routine etc, that is on Martin those mistakes, but it's his decision making and overall presence which he's lacking.

That goal is a shocker, the clearance he made the complete wrong decision, then panicked, and scuffed his clearance, the free kick itself came into the box and it was a poor ball, bit of a communication and he takes it, instead he dives out nowhere near it, we head out and it comes back in, goal. He has cost us too many times and he needs to take time out to improve on training pitch. He's way too quiet for a goalkeeper aswell, not sure what Benda is like in that regard but he deserves a run in the team.

Sort of agree but Benda is the better keeper so should be in goal.

Don't forget Martin failed to get us going for the few few games last season too and when Benda took it in to his own hands and started clearing the lines we won our first game - he said in his post match interview that the players had decided to change it up, and for that he was promplty dropped and exiled out on loan for the rest of the season. I want Martin to succeed, his success is our success, and I want to see the swans play a game where all of our players are comfortable in possession, but lets not pretend that he's not a bit of a dick at times.

Yeah pretty much how I see it.

There was something different about Saturday though, I don't think the players took it upon themselves, he's either had word from above, or it has finally hit home our players have nowhere near the technical ability to be able to play the way he likes.

We can still play good football, and build from the back, we did at times Saturday, but it doesn't have to be kamikaze.

A shocker it certainly is, and without doubt warrants the drop.

Looking at it again, it probably explains why Darling was dropped aswell. It's not good enough and it's costing us too many times. Both lads are young but they are not learning from mistakes.

It certainly looked different. Like many, first thing I did after Benda launched the ball forward the first time was to look what Martin thought of it. He didn't seem to be displeased. The fact Benda continued doing it in the second half kind of confirmed it was sanctioned by Martin. He must have come under pressure by some of the other coaching staff.
