Captain Grimes on his way to Coventry City?

I'm not convinced. He could realistically get that kind of money in the summer (maybe more if his agent had until then to tout him about more).

But why is it suddenly imperative (from both the club's and his viewpoint) that the club captain leaves in the last week of the January transfer window?

A few weeks ago he gave that fluffy interview about being here a decade and look forward to the future.

Somethings happened.

Nothing's happened other than Coventry and Frank Lampard have decided to give us the thick end of £4m for a 30-y/o player whose only strength is passing accurately over very short distances to the side or backwards.

They've offered him a big wage hike. Money talks.

There is no conspiracy. It's just a deal that works for everyone involved (especially us).

They are more than likely in for a rude awakening, but if he does start threading passes like De Bruyne then we know beyond any doubt that it is William's tactics and not the resources he has been given that is the issue.

He's played under five permanent managers since he became a first team regular. Potter was the only one who got him attacking on a consistent basis. Duff managed it briefly. For all the others, he's either playing exactly the way they wanted him to play, exactly the way he wants to play, or it's the same thing.

It's possible that he'll rock up in Coventry and be Potter Season Grimes, in which case that'll really put our recent managerial choices under the microscope.

Whatever happens I don't think it's going to reflect well on management here.

If he goes there and is bang average, in and out of their team and they eventually move on to someone else - we'll wonder why this club built the entire team around him and made him captain and treated him like a demi-god.

If he goes there and is successful in a more dynamic, attacking role - we'll look at our staff and wonder why we based our whole tactical approach on him tippy-tapping all game with the centre-halves whilst the crowd - and his team-mates die of boredom.

Goes without saying.

Whatever, if we weren't going t try and get him to play differently - and Williams certainly wasn't - at least one of them had to go. I fear we're still left with an absolute numpty.

Something clearly has happened. maybe a 'him or me' from either, and Colemanballs chose his Willy.

30 yrs old. Highest earner. Both jumped out of that article at me. Its a risk given our precarious league position but can see a logic to it.
Its a bold strategy ...etc

I am one of the few that actually seems to rate Grimes as a footballer… but can also see why people are frustrated with him.

I’m actually excited, maybe more intrigued actually, as to what a Grimesless Swansea looks like.

He is not a bad player and I as you am interested to see how it goes without him.
Whatever happens it's just going to heighten the debate on here 🙈😁
