Does Anyone Really See An Improvement?

The trust in Russ had gone by January, that’s why we didn’t sign anyone.
Yeah I know that, but I’m saying people/he moaned about the squad but in the end he got us to nearly the play offs with the same squad moaned about.

He had been given 25 players by that point and was regularly demonstrating his inability to put a winning team together, whether that be via his mainstream Plan A or his rarely seen Plan B. I for one am thankful that we didn’t lavish further funds on him.

To be fair, how many Everton, Wolves, Oxford, Hull, Preston, even Cardiff fans would have said they couldn't see an improvement before they changed managers?

Every year 10s of teams across the leagues look useless before changing managers and then turn into a completely different set of players.

We'd be stupid not to try and join them.

One of the better decisions made by our owners in recent years.

My prediction is (feel free to laugh at me later when this is way off) that we sign one or two players tomorrow, then lose at Bristol City while playing no better than yesterday. Williams is sacked and someone else comes in who is not a miracle worker but at least figures out a way to play that suits the players better and inspires some confidence in them. We finish lower middle half of the table, 8 to 10 points above relegation.

Then the cycle starts again next year unless something drastically changes at the club. As our squad gets worse every year we will eventually get relegated at some point.

I really don’t think that he’s a great manager. My concern is Coleman. Sooner we appoint a Director of Football who knows what their doing the better.
Will the appointment of that director of football change anything though? I have my doubts

I get what your saying but I don't think it's a given we are going down especially when we have a 7 points buffer on the last team in the drop zone.

I just think the confidence is at rock bottom presently.
Seven points is sod all - it was twelve when the calendar turned to January.

Can be wiped out very quickly with the wrong set of results against the wrong teams

I wouldn't go as far to say it's sod all, I would rather have that buffer than not.

I do agree though that it can be wiped away very quickly.

With Captain Williams at the helm this ship is sinking fast. This buffer you talk about will be gone in a matter of weeks.

How many games before you think that buffer would be wiped out?
It would also involve us not picking up any points in the amount of games you call it.

30 games in and only 27 points with the teams taking the last spot. They are on 0.9 points per game.

Quite easily gone within 3/5 games.

Issue is we don't look like winning a game. This lot have given up.

I really hope I'm wrong, but the vibe I'm getting at the moment is way too similar to the vibe in 2018 after the Carvalhal bounce had worn off.

I remember we beat West Ham 4-1 around the end of Jan/early Feb I think it was, and everyone thought oh we'll be safe now no problem at all. Don't think we won a game after that.

Could easily happen again. Esp if tomorrow's deadline day is a washout.

Just glancing at the fixtures.

This month is critical as March looks a wipe out.

Our run in then could be many 6 pointers.
