I thought I was dreaming the 20mph limit

I'm a bit confused. It seems that the same people who advocate violence against the Just Stop Oil people when they walk slowly in front of traffic in their protests are now suggesting doing the same thing in protest against the new speed limits?

Maybe because protesting against 20mph is valid, and just stop oil goons are not?

Now funnily enough, looking at FB earlier, and one chap is organising a rolling road block from Cardiff to Carmarthen and back.

I’ve just been stuck in a procession of 100+ cars travelling from one side of Swansea to Fairwood

Wouldn’t there previously have been a precession of 100+ cars, but going 10mph quicker? Unless you think more cars drive that route now because of the lower speed limit?

From what I've seen this morning, some people are obeying the new speed limit and some are not, this is the most dangerous outcome

That sounds like any speed limit

I think the slower speeds are bound to increase congestion, so the chap on Wol does have a point, no doubt some are doing 20, and the rest who are going more will catch up, hence the added congestion.

If you were talking about straight long roads for miles I could sort of understand you. How many roads other than motorways and duals are like this? They've all got junctions, roundabouts, traffic lights, zebra crossings etc etc. And every town and city that i drive in South Wales at rush hour, is busy and congested anyway. There won't be any noticeable difference is my prediction. People will look for and invent issues though, because people are weird.

But surely common sense would dictate that if x amount of people are journeying from A-B, then if the journey time becomes slower, then the congestion increases, now that is considering that no doubt some drakeford loving law abiding goons will be doing under 20, wouldn't surprise me if it was 15 mph.

I've been reading a couple of articles about the Wag and this today, and so far my conclusion is, It's an all out declaration of war on the welsh motorist, and I dread to think what's up their sleeve next, because believe you me, there will be something up their sleeve, worse than this.

Way too many variables for you to come to the conclusion you are trying to get to.

Do you realise that there have been large areas in England and Wales, before today that have had 20mph limits? I drive frequently in a couple of them in the cardiff suburbs, made zero difference to my journey time. You are willing it to be carnage, I suspect to add fuel to your hatred of Mr Drakeford. England and Scotland will be introducing more areas with the 20 limit as well, no doubt before all the UK will follow suit.

And as for tourism claim in another post, you may want to sit down for this... In Spain the speed limit in residential areas is 12mph  (I wish we had a poster living in Spain to confirm or deny this).

It may turn out to be absolute carnage, but lets wait to experience it first is it?

That's another thing, the point you are making about junctions, roundabouts, traffic lights, zebras, for me the whole system for traffic, was designed many years ago, before the volume of cars on the road, and it seems they just don't want to improve it, it seems the only solution they offer is making life difficult for the motorist, rather than improving roads and transport for the future, in their silly world we don't need cars, everything is cycle or walk, or use public transport.. It's absolutely unbelievable, that they are doing this shi% towards the motorist, when the gimps don't even have a viable alternative in place. Public transport? God knows how long it would take on a bus from my house to say Morriston hospital, 2 hours?

No I'm not waiting to experience it, it's a bonkers idea, that should never be in place! It won't stop at this 20 is plenty rubbish, think I'm wrong well the WAG were the first to bring in a 5p carrier bag charge, as a token gesture to discourage people from using plastic bags, now it's a 30p charge for a small one. The wag gimps have been infiltrated by WEF.

And yet other parts of the U.K. followed Wales in that charge and went forth we by banning plastic straws which Wales hasn’t done yet.

Funny you should mention Spain, sure the Welsh Government have been using their statistics as a blueprint in the propaganda, unfortunately for them it's been pointed out, the dates they used were when covid was at it's height, and nobody was really traveling then. So there is no real data to support it.

In all fairness, I think that's the only good thing they have done, it's pretty easy to take the bags for life shopping every week, I suppose my gripe with this is, the actual shops and their greed, bags were always free, but to discourage a token 5p charge was made, now the rip off merchants want 20p for a paper one. WTAF?

You'll get no arguments from me on the state of our roads or public transport.

Perhaps with all the speed limit fines they'll be handing out to the rebels, perhaps they will use that to sort it out?

Don't quote me on this, but according to some chap on X, there will no fines or points if doing under 30 in a 20 zone?

Not initially. The focus is on education not enforcement. There was a similar reaction when seat belts became compulsory in the early 80s. Then everyone got used to it and the world didn’t end.

Initially as long as the speed isn't excessive that will be the case. They are going to use the fire service to try to educate the speeders.
