January Transfer Rumours

It took nothing short of Cullis, Mike The Pound, the Trust and Hull to get us to the turnaround of 2004 onwards. Unfortunately, and I've really tried to look hard into it, I can't see anything short of relegation and struggle (not to the extent of years goneby) to make us a club capable of competing in the Championship or above. The status quo has been declining year by year and under the present type of owners will, at the best, keep slowly declining. That's my opinion at present.

Some people here are being very dramatic with the current state of affairs, yes its not ideal but its also a far cry from some of the dross people have been claiming. We have had a few shit performances in a row which is probably fuelling a lot of this but overall we are fairly comfortable with a thin squad. Just look at some of the teams below us who were either fighting in and around the play offs over the last few years/ were in the Prem who have spent BIG money.

Cut the deadwood over the summer and re-assess instead of paying an inflated premium for players who will not better us in January. Start casting judgement after the summer window, lets HOPE that the new men in charge get it right and stop winging before they get a chance............

I agree with this post.
We are not dealing with the reality very well, think it's because we had 13 years of success after nearly going out of the league. The premier league had it's rewards but the fall out is huge after relegation and we are right in that shadow.....not been helped by the clowns who bought us in 2016.

Expectancy and entitlement are things I am seeing.

Lots of work to do but it could be far worse that's for sure

I think the appointment of Williams was a desperation signing. He was the lazy choice from the beginning with his links to us.

If we had the new ownership team in place at the time of Duffs sacking I do wonder if they would have appointed him.

After all if you pay peanuts you get monkeys.
Aren’t the people who chose Williams still involved? Levien and Kaplan wouldn’t have been selecting candidates, although they’d certainly sign off an appointment. I would guess that Coleman and the rest of the local board chose Williams?

I’m only pulling you up on your question about why we bother. We’ve come good in this division before and there is no reason why we cannot do so again.

Where I am aligned with you is on the topic of recruitment. The recent track record isn’t great, despite relatively high levels of spend. Big improvement required here concerning value for money.
Not sure we can be compared to Bristol City which is a massive city compared to us with a team that has been underachieving for decades.

Course we can... for one they have 2 teams with little or no success, big rugby city with 3 big clubs nearby with a ground not much bigger than us. Underachiever most certainly but I think we compare even similar to Plymouth.

Probably the most entitled fanbase in UK football at the moment, embarrasssing

Stink of a panic appointment due to the process dragging on for longer than anyone had first anticipated.

Probably all we could afford with the wages on offer at the time as well.

You can't get bigger for rugby than South Wales plus Ashton gate holds 27,000.

I think our club is fairly unique.

You are joking?
Yep, try and buy players we moan, don't buy them we moan.

Select few on here seem to think we are entitled to win every game too - we're automatically shit if we lose etc but nothing to do with the fact that the other team wants to win too

Sure I read a comment here complaining that we hadn't signed low yet even though Williams said we had people lined up a few weeks ago, it's not football manager ffs

No, I think fans are largely fed up of seeing the club's money wasted on below average players and coaching staff. And would much prefer investments were carefully planned within the club's budgetary constraints. How dare they.

Perhaps the frustration is that we could easily get Low and the increased salary for Darling if we didn't waste god knows how much on Pedersen?

Generally the nature of football fans. I don't think anyone expects us to win every game but I think people expect us to do our best for the shirt. Like every football fan in the land.

I'd imagine the expectations are similar to before the Prem days. I don't see anyone saying they expect us to be challenging at the top but they expect us to be showing better than we are. And that's not just on the pitch.

No of course but as above, perhaps Williams should say less (e.g. Rushworth will be back next season, Darling not fit perhaps for next weekend but we took him to Southampton etc...)

Needs to look at some of his comments on the matchday threads when we play cack?
