We've met before...

SAM SURRIDGE

It was 6th August 2019 when Swansea signed Sam Surridge on a season long loan from AFC Bournemouth.

He had previously made two Premier League appearances for the Cherries and shown impressive goalscoring form in his loan spells away from the Vitality Stadium.

Having joined Bournemouth’s academy set-up at the age of nine, Surridge elected to leave to play for local side Bournemouth Sports.

But he was snapped up again by the Cherries youth department at under-15 level and proved a prolific scorer at age-grade level.

Surridge also enjoyed initial loan spells with Weymouth and Poole before making his EFL bow for Yeovil.

He spent the 2017-18 season on loan at Huish Park and scored 10 goals in 53 appearances for the Glovers, while he featured in their FA Cup meeting with Manchester United.

He joined Oldham on loan at the start of the 2018-19 campaign and made a big impression at Boundary Park, netting 12 goals in 20 games for the League Two side.

His first goal for the Swans came away to QPR in a 3-1 win for the Swans and he went onto score 7 times in 23 appearances for the club. However, he was recalled by Bournemouth at the start of 2020 due to their injury concerns - a move that actually allowed the Swans to bring in Rhian Brewster for his loan spell.

Surridge went onto make 4 Premier League appearances for the Cherries as they fought unsuccessfully against relegation and his only goal of last season following the return was in their FA Cup defeat to Arsenal.

He has so far scored three goals this season for Bournemouth but has netted in their last two games.

Upon signing him for the Swans, Steve Cooper said: -

Sam is another sought-after player that generated a lot of interest. He's had previous loans at lesser levels than ours but this is the right step for him and the right move for us as well.

He has a chance to play in the Championship for the first time but that's what happens with young players progressing.

We're very happy to give him the opportunity. He definitely fits the bill in terms of what we're after. He's also at a good age coming from a team like Bournemouth

Warren Feeney grabbed a fine brace against his former club Bournemouth to send Swansea top of League One with a comprehensive 4-1 win at Dean Court.

Midfielder Ferrie Bodde gave Swansea the lead in the 15th minute when he curled home a free kick over the wall and into the top left hand corner.

Trinidad & Tobago defender Dennis Lawrence doubled his side’s advantage in the 28th minute when he leapt highest to nod home Darren Pratley’s corner.

Lee Bradbury got his side back in the game with his first home goal for the club after Lawrence brought down Danny Holland and the referee pointed to the spot, Bradbury making no mistake by firing into bottom right hand corner.

Feeney restored the two-goal advantage seven minutes from time with a penalty of his own after Marc Wilson handled in the box.

And Pratley played through Feeney in the 88th minute and the striker made no mistake as he took the ball past Neil Moss and finished from 12 yards.

Tuesday's Ref Is Peter Bankes

Peter Bankes will take charge of the Swans for the first time this season when we entertain Bournemouth at the Liberty on Tuesday evening.

It will be his 8th referee appointment of the domestic season with four of his previous appearances coming in the Premier League including West Ham's 2-1 win over Aston Villa last Monday evening.

In his seven previous appearances this season he has shown 20 yellow cards and 1 red card - for Darius Charles of Wycombe in their 5-0 defeat at Blackburn back in September.

His last two games in charge of the Swans have both been eventful affairs. In February he handed out 8 yellow cards and 2 penalties in our 2-2 draw at Ewood Park. Five of the yellow cards were for the Swans - Garrick, Brewster, Fulton, Grimes and Naughton whilst Freddie Woodman saved a penalty from former Swan Danny Graham although Blackburn did equalise in the 5th minute of stoppage time.

Bankes also took charge of both Swansea's games against Charlton last season. A 1-0 win at the Liberty came after there were raised eyebrows on his appointment considering he also took charge of the game at the Valley which the Swans won 2-1. After the game, Bankes match report said Bowyer had approached him and questioned his integrity at full-time.

The Charlton manager was quoted saying: “You were absolutely horrendous you tonight. I bet you are pleased. I see you looked after your mate from your academy days tonight" - comments which earned Bowyer a £4,000 fine and a three match touchline ban.

At an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing, Bowyer said he was talking to Swansea boss Steve Cooper ahead of the game, before Bankes engaged in a lengthy conversation with the Welshman.

At the end of the chat, Cooper said to Bowyer: “Don’t worry we’re not best mates, he just used to do all our academy games.”

This is a huge game, hopefully we turn up this time, unlike that Luton shower.. I've watched Bournemouth 3 times this season, and they're the best team in the Championship

I didn't realise how shit our record was against them in the Prem. Kind of sums up our decline I guess.

Bournemouth were the 'new Swansea' for a while, albeit with significantly more money.

They should walk this division, so a point would be a great result. A win would be phenomenal.

The problem I think with the Bournemouth games we always went into them thinking they were the kind of game that we should win but we never actually gave them the respect that they deserved to actually set up to try and win the game.

That defeat on NYE in 2016 was embarrassing for us - we were as bad at that point as at any moment in our Premier League history

I went to the 3 away games in 2016, 2017 & 2018 and we never looked like even competing in them let alone likely to get something. Bournemouth isn't that far from me but it's a slow, difficult journey by car and those 3 drives home were utterly dismal, especially the last one as I went alone and it was the week before we were relegated. Seemed like a good idea at the time but it wasn't.
