Silverstein speaking to the fans

The Karlan Grant deal fell apart because of Chelsea's fumbling on deadline day. I've not suggested that they have nothing to apologise for. There were mistakes and outside factors, sometimes we were outbid, other times it wasn't about the money.

Obafemi scored a goal every 170 minutes last season, almost as good as Piroe. The only significant flaw was that the manager didn't play him for half the season (and his terrible first touch). In retrospect clearly £8m should have been accepted but Bristol City just got £10m+ for an older, less prolific forward. The risk of "showing ambition" and holding on to players. Maybe one day they'll start taking the first offer as they're often accused?

That's another thing our fans are quick to do, scream and shout we didn't get enough for a player, then scream and shout because we held on and didn't get more / anything. They literally can't win.

Football fans on the whole are spoilt brats, who think running a professional football club is as easy as playing championship manager or whatever is about these days.

Good to see you posting again Jasp.

Anyone in the youth set up you're expecting to make the break through?

Why was it Grant or no-one? He's not Pele. Shouldn't they have had back up choices? Why was it left so late? Let alone positions that are actually more pressing like rwb or keeper.

Well there evidently are other flaws. Hassenhuttl in 2020: "The problem with Michael was always he would play one good game and then fall back a little bit and was not professional enough to force or keep his position in the team or in the squad."

So it's not like these attitude issues were unknown. Each transfer dealing should be assessed individually and the proof on this one is in the pudding. There's a balance they are yet to master.

Grant can't have been plan A surely?

He was only mentioned on January 31st, so if the window was planned it's reasonable to assume that he was plan D or E or plan panic.

Well that's frightening that they were planning to make a plan D or E choice the highest paid player in the squad then!

Joel Cotterill, Ben Lloyd and Iwan Morgan have every chance in the next couple of seasons. Iwan's recently stepped up to u21s and looked very sharp right away. Been scoring for fun in the u18s since he was 15. I'm optimistic about the current 17-19 year old group, think there's more quality and quantity than what we've had to work with in the last few seasons.

According to Russ, Grant was agreed last minute by Josh because of the relationship he had with the player and manager of West Brom from their Huddersfield days.

How's young Bony looking? Seems to have something about him from the few highlights I've seen.

He's done well. Good partnership with Morgan. Expect he'll be kept on for another year as we lack strikers in the u21s, but he's not had a real run of games at that level yet.
