Seems as if certain members on here are already making hints of excuses for when Trump wins.

After last night's confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett, Trump's already won. If the election is anywhere near close, which it will be, Trump will contest and the Supreme Court will rule in his favour. Its over.

Ultimately it depends on how close. If the margins stay around 5% in Pennsylvania and 8% in Wisconsin and Michigan as currently polling the difference in votes (100,000s) is probably too great to challenge. Of course if North Carolina, Arizona, Florida and even potentially Georgia go to Biden then any legal challenge will be seen as too crooked. Of course, if the Senate goes to the Democrats even a Trump win by removal of ballots it may well end in impeachment by both houses and a long drawn out mess with massive unrest. Economist calling 4% for Trump now and Nate Silver 8%. In 2016 Trump has modelled to have a 28% chance.

Edited to add: The polling error in PA was 4.4% in 2016. Given the time, the polls have got to be very wrong, probably more so than 2016 for Trump to win barring a huge swing in the polls this week. With rising COVID this seems unlikely.

The vote will be as close as they need it to be as long as the Supreme Court gets to decide which votes are legitimate.

The Supreme Court can give Trump whatever result he wants now and much of the American voting population will happily kiss American democracy good bye because women are going to lose their reproductive rights over the next four years. It’s been rule by the minority for the benefit of the minority for some years now. This is just natural progression. If/when Trump is re-elected, watch him pivot to seriously wanting to extend his term of office.

Trump has already told us he’s contesting an election loss in the courts. Remarking upon his anti democratic and fascistic tendencies is not making excuses.

From that perspective it’s pretty interesting to watch from afar. I think he’s refused to confirm he’ll honour a peaceful transfer of power if he loses, says he’ll challenge a loss in the courts as you say, and encouraged his supporters to vote twice (which is illegal).

Interesting, but scary (for the Americans). Nice we can have a sensible discussion on here about it without people ramming propaganda down our throats too.

Just dropped off my ballot. Here in Ohio it’s cold and rainy and the early voting place was mobbed. It’s the same country wide. People are more than happy to risk Covid to vote this guy out. Ex allies and other prominent Republicans lining up to endorse Biden. With the Hunter BS dead in the water their newest best closing argument is a paper they just released, featuring Ivanka announcing Covid defeated, even with highest one day case count yesterday. 5-1 Wall Street $ to Biden. Only 300,000 ahead and their lead falling daily.

There was a 350,000 swing to Trump on 2016 polling day. With more Dems voting by mail and early It will be a lot bigger this time. Some polls have Reps to outvote Dems by 3 to 1 on polling day.

These are figures by registered voters. Not evryone will vote for their registered party but no reason to believe that about the same amount of dems will vote red and vice versa.

Trump had a 6% lead amongst independents last time.
