Welsh League Cup

I know you're just hypothesisng, but there's absolutely no chance that we - or any of the Welsh clubs - come close to winning even the Conference League.

We just got completely turned over by the worst team in the Premier League, and we're expected to compete against genuinely high quality sides from Italy, Spain, Netherlands, so on?

It just feels cheap. Joining the Welsh Leagues (but not really) so that we can claim to qualify for Europe is no different to rocking up to a 9th Birthday Party, winning the pass the parcel, and then showing off your prize as hard-earned winnings
The quality of the competition isn't that great except a handful of teams

When we got promoted to the premier league at no point did anyone expect us to compete for as long as we did, let alone win a major trophy let alone turn Valencia over in their own back yard.

The money generated for the FAW and the coefficient points for the national side aren't to be sniffed at either.

We always used to qualify through the Welsh Cup. Why didn’t that continue? (I really don’t know). But if that couldn’t succeed and continue, why would this?

The only real theoretical jeopardy here (we ain’t qualifying through the ‘English’ route ever again) is that it raises the issue of ‘separation’. If there were a European Super League, which is not unimaginable and, as Clive says, there is a league restructure, that could become a problem. Oh, and in practical terms the extra games and lack of interest. In the end I don’t think many cared much about the old Welsh cup even with its European incentive.

Just had a quick look online and the FAW stop us playing in the competition.

A few "outspoken" comments at the bottom of this article.

I'm sure a large amount of fans not of the 4 would think much the same.

We want to be successful, so our aim is the Premier.

Example

If we finished 6 then the 7th team would qualify. (Good for them)

If in the semi final of the FA Cup we beat a team, we can't qualify through the final, but the beaten team have lost the chance of qualifying through the final.

I'm sure that would go down well with opposition club and fans.

This kind of thing makes it amazing to me that the FA and the PL would consider backing this. Anything that has even a miniscule chance of upsetting the 'big clubs' will surely be blocked.

You can't get it on a spreadsheet or at a desk.

I think it starts in June as you say. No doubt we would be playing with a Harry Darling for the first few games before he buggers off to sign for someone else on July 1st.

I'm sure the owners of thr "big four" believe that this makes the clubs more attractive (and probably more saleable) but are ignoring the bigger divide it creates with the English pyramid.
You think Darling would be buggering off to another championship team when he could stay and play Europa League football across Europe?

You think Darling would be buggering off to another championship team when he could stay and play for a (at best) one in four chance of *Conference League qualification football across the deepest darkest parts of Europe?
Corrected for you

Parroting my comments from the last time this came up in conversation - nothing has changed imo:

''This leaves a bad taste in my mouth. We've made our bed of playing in the English Leagues (which, let's be honest, is still a vastly superior option for us as a club), it would be uncouth to say the least if we now decided that we want to jump on a much smaller competition for the sake of being in another competition that we have no chance of winning.

Doesn't show huge support to Welsh clubs that we're planning on rocking up and stealing their place in Europe, either''

''Selfishly, the ideal for me is a single season in the Welsh Cup, we win it straight away and qualify for Europe, then use the bounce of being in Europe to attract a higher-calibre player, whom carry us out of the Championship. Next season, back out the Welsh Cup, ask for all to be back to normal, and we're sorted. No dramas.

Absolutely none of that will happen, and as such, I remain strongly against the idea. You either play in the English Pyramid, or the Welsh, can't expect to be able to piss about with both.''
Why not? We did it for years in the past without any issue.

Remember, we were invited to join the EFL, we didn’t ask. If there was any threat to our EFL status then this idea wouldn’t be on the table.

I would think yes if he sees them as a more progressive club and of course paid more

Times change. Football is second to business the higher up the leave you go.

When we played in the Welsh cup football was a different beast.

I didn’t agree with it when I first heard about it and don’t agree with it now.

Quite how the ‘winning team’ crams both this competition and the European fixtures into an already congested calendar is anyone’s guess.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Plus is screws things up for me on football manager. I'll never get the Swans in to the Champions League'
