Welsh League Cup

I didn’t agree with it when I first heard about it and don’t agree with it now.

Quite how the ‘winning team’ crams both this competition and the European fixtures into an already congested calendar is anyone’s guess.
That's the main issue here. The logistics are nightmarish. Pre-season in June, 4 qualifying matches in July and August, then 6 group matches up to Xmas, then another 2, 4, 6 whatever knockout matches. How are we going to fit them in? And are Grimes and co going to be happy with a 11 month season?

Greed is driving this pure and simple. TNS made £5 million from their group stage Conference League run. Not to be sniffed at. But the sensible way to go here is for thd ownership group to buy up Penybont, make the club full time professional and qualify for Europe that way, with the potential of playing in the Champions league or Europa League. European games played at the Swansea.com and we loan Penybont our promising U21s. Everyone's a winner.

You think Darling would be buggering off to another championship team when he could stay and play Europa League football across Europe?
For an extra £5k a week over what we would pay. Half a million over a two year contract?
You bet your life he would.

I dont know why we bother with the existing two cup competitions if it’s so disastrously bad for the team. God forbid we have a decent run in one of those cups 🙄

Anyone know if the club has consulted the fans with regards to this proposal?

I just feel uncomfortable with any of the 4 EFL clubs taking away a European place from the clubs in the Welsh League.
Smells a bit like the EFL trophy where u21 teams from the Prem and Championship play in a cup competition for League 1 & 2 teams.
It’s taking things away from the smaller clubs. (Although they could well benefit financially)

So if we did qualify for the Europa conference league we would have to play loads of extra games and we wouldn't get the profits from the European games. We would then be playing Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday and again on the following weekend. This would be difficult to maintain our form in the Championship and we could well get relegated.
But if we get relegated and win the Welsh league cup in the same season we would have 46 league one games, Europa league games, Welsh league cup games, FA cup games, English league cup games and Football league trophy games.
Too many games.

You're spot on. This is a poisoned chalice. If the English FA approve this it will be because English clubs see our greed being our downfall. Even with the prospect of earning £5 million every other season or so, the costs will outweigh the benefits.

I wonder if any point the club are going to consult the fans and ask us what we want?

I know we were invited to play in the English League but that was 1920s. I can really see the EFL kicking us out if we opted for this. Maybe not straight away. Look at the ex league teams in the Conference. I'm sure they'd have umbrage with us, in my opinion, taking the piss. A very, very dangerous path to take.

Or consulted the players... I'm sure Grimes and Co would welcome a 11 month season. Not.
Never understood why a professional footballer would complain about playing football.

I couldn't get enough when I used to play.
