It’s also the case that Drakeford could say “the moon is in the sky” and many would say “no it ain’t, stupid Dripford”. Cos some people are just wired that way.
What we need to do is stop more Assembly members getting their snouts in the gravy train, and also stop wasting millions of pounds on failed projects, Cardiff Airport, M4 relief road . How many countries in the world have their residents going to another country to be able to fly away on holiday. It's ridiculous. He is, of course, and as usual, absolutely right in principle. Good for him in trying to shake up the complacent debate. I wish his lot in Westminster would do that on Brexshit. The first thing to do though, is abolish free prescriptions if we still do that. It’s a lovely idea but the scarce money can be spent better. Oh and have fewer politicians on lower expenses, not more on higher.
I’d love to see a Plaid government, but won’t make a smidgeon of difference to the NHS in Wales. Unless they raise income tax in Wales, and God help them then.
That’s where I am with what he said. There probably are more than enough, if the NHS was run properly.
As the temperamental poster says further up though, don’t give them your vote in 2026, give it to Plaid, the only party that truly cares about Wales and not their paymasters in Westminster. Listen to Rhun speak, head and shoulders above any other Welsh politician.
The lunatics really have taken over.Look out, someone’s found the password to the WiFi up the Coed.
What the actual fuck are you wibbling on about now?Aye THICKO ever heard of a place called BAGLAN?
You know it once had a HDU that (bizarrely NOT reported on BBC NEWS or on Google!) has been shut. The HDU had 5 HDU beds and 4 coronary care beds. All types of organ failure management/treatment and stabilisation was seen at this highly specailised dept. True to devolution ethos there were too many beds apparently.
So in all fairness (LOL!) your beloved and utterly ruinous Welsh Assembly Government really does hate the thought of ‘beds’ and decided to shut a few!
AND? My information has come from a former SENIOR clinician who just happens to be related to me. Btw In a post on another forum you were most offended by the term "senior" and called me a bell end for using it. May I apologise on behalf of Wales NHS for using terms like ‘Senior registrar”…..Senior house officer”….. Senior Clinical Team Lead etc etc etc……LOL!
It’s not allll about money though. He is, of course, and as usual, absolutely right in principle. Good for him in trying to shake up the complacent debate. The NHS is Wales needs dramatic reforms. It’s absolutely mad how backward it is.
The NHS in Wales is like one big stereotype on the public sector. Bloated, inefficient, fearful of change, bureaucratic.
In England the difference is they will be more pragmatic. In Wales we just won’t entertain the idea of moving with the times.
In the end the NHS in Wales will be privatised ahead of England because it simply won’t be sustainable. It needs a complete overhaul and it needs people with balls to stare the public in the eye and say things need to change.
We spend over 50% of GDP on health it’s wild. How on earth are we supposed to have a world class education system and economy that is fit for the future with that constant money pit sucking in more and more.
Because everything is “free” here there’s also little incentive to do right by society. I personally would be very happy to pay towards prescriptions if needed. I also try to keep myself in decent shape. So many fat people in our Country, who need to take some responsibility. So many people drinking themselves to oblivion.
The problem that is very foreseeable is that we end up with a populist right gov. It’s coming. It has been coming for years because of the never ending comfort zone. Last chance saloon.
I wouldn't disagree with any of that, other than the NHS in England is on the same path, but just does have more money thrown at it. The whole idea of the 'NHS' needs to be challenged...it hasn't been the best model for a long. long time, but no politician dare do it. It is the ultimate sacred cow. That's why I said good on Drakey for at least trying to take a different perspective to the normal orthodoxy. It’s not allll about money though.

Where’s the evidence for more resources in England?I wouldn't disagree with any of that, other than the NHS in England is on the same path, but just does have more money thrown at it. For NHS, see transport, see education, etc etc. totally agree with you though. The NHS needs to be taken out of politics. A path forward needs to be agreed between politicians of all parties, clinicians, patient groups and a 20 year plan put in place.
Grown up discussions need to be had to determine what can be done and done well by the NHS and what can't be done. Short termism by politicians who are only interested in the next election has been disastrous.
Do you really think it doesn't? I thought it was just obvious, so what figures say it isn't? (interested, not attacking, you might well be right). Are you talking per capita, because there are economies of scale to adjust out from that.Where’s the evidence for more resources in England?
As I understand it per capita Wales spends more than every region in England, apart from London and around 15% per head more than England overall (Nuffield Trust)Do you really think it doesn't? I agree with that for sure, and it's been happening for as long as I can remember...and it was 1988 when I last worked in the NHS. In fact I would say a lot of the money put in should not be classified as investment. As I understand it per capita Wales spends more than every region in England, apart from London and around 15% per head more than England overall (Nuffield Trust)
The Scots have the most generous settlement and northern Irish are comparable with Wales as I understand it.
I’m pretty sure if you compare like for like region in England in terms of demographic factors we are falling behind.
I don’t doubt there has been some tightening over the years but not as much as many would argue. It’s more because we plough money in without any reform to maximise the value of that investment.
