• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

Stated from Grimes's first few games as captain for us, that he wasn't captain material.
Stated when he left it could be good for us.

In fact a few others did on both counts.
Yet we were ridiculed by people telling us we were wrong and Swansea will suffer. FACT 🙄
Amazing to see those people with such amazing football knowledge, jumping on the we're well rid of Grimes bandwagon.

Never understand why people use "FACT " in capital letters as if that proves things as true.
Makes you look a bit twp when you're proved wrong and people who have too much time find your answer from a couple of years ago and repost it to you, as seems to happen on here a lot.

Ps.
I'll never have anything like that much time and IMHO, does make those who do a bit sad.

I don’t know how Fotmob works but it must be statistically based because you can’t have someone watching every player everywhere.
Grimes will always look good in any statistical analysis but his stats always flatter him and his influence on games is minimal for a player with his stats.

Apart from the above average pass completion, touches, pass accuracy, goals, expected goals, shots, shots on target, assists, expected assists, accurate long balls, chances created, successful crosses, successful dribbles, recoveries what the hell did Grimes do for us?

Restrict our play to snail like pace, offer next to no support in midfield, make a fourth centre half even if we already had a three, dominate the play to pad his stats on top of his from open play customary one or two goals a season.

We are far better off without him

If his goal stats, shots on target, chances created, successful dribbles are coming back as above average on your stats machine, can I recommend you send it back, it’s definitely broken mate.

The difference in our play since Grimes left has been night and day imo, he was a big issue looking back at it, and as others and myself have said he had a massive hold on the club and thought he was bigger than everyone, I’m glad we’ve moved on from him.

Tell me if Grimes is that good then why only Coventry City come in for him? Apparently he was a big fan of them after Mr Bidwell got him tickets for their Fa Cup semi final match against Man United.

Sorry these are just facts, plain facts. You can choose your opinions not your facts, unless you're called Donald Trump.

It’s broken, trust me. The bloke only scored about 8 times for us, in what world is that above average. It’s bollocks, go to a game and watch it, you’ll get far more enjoyment than crunching numbers.

There has been a big difference since Sheehan took over, which coincidentally almost coincided with Grimes' departure and LoB's arrival. LoB was a better fit for Sheehan's game plan, out of possession at least, but it's hard to say exactly how Grimes would have fared under Sheehan. In his previous 7 game stint Grimes was POTM twice, so perhaps we would have seen a more dynamic version second time.

I understand why people are inclined to identify Grimes with the possession heavy, slow tempo, approach of Martin and Williams. There is some justification for this, but it's a very simplistic assessment to see nothing else in Grimes' contribution.

The big challenge for Sheehan going forwards is if we're going to sacrifice the possession and control offered by Grimes for something more dynamic, can we dictate proceedings in other ways? The initial signs are promising, as we have managed more passes in the opposition half than they've managed in ours. The question is, can we sustain that if LoB doesn't return? I think there's a decent chance we will, especially as LoB was good, and the right player at the right time, but not so good as to be indispensable.
