• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler

I had a quick look at the Coventry Forum tonight after their play off loss. This comment struck a chord with me 😊 -

"I know I’m in the minority here, but Grimes ain’t all that. He’s great on the ball, he just receives it way too deep and is not adventurous enough.
Receiving the ball deeper than the CB’s against a low block and then slowing it down is mental"

Watched the last 15 minutes. He was the last man again. Seems to enjoy whatever role that is.

They're getting there. The number of them who think like that will increase over time.

The dawn of realisation. It’s a horrible feeling.

Grimes could have done so much more in his career. Not a stand out individual but what he does with the ball, he does it well and holds onto it.

If football didn't have goals then he would be up there as one of the best.
He doesn't create enough going forward and invites problems for his defenders and goalkeeper.

Three or four times his crosses never beat the first man, or was too close to the keeper.
Nothing changed there.
Yet Lampard is full of praise for him according to an article floating around....best bit of business we did selling him.

All of his managers have loved him & picked him every game, the paying spectators not so much!
Watching him last night there's no change in his playing style in a Cov shirt & Lampard is obviously happy with him.
He's OK but there's no flair or excitement, you know exactly what you're going to get & it's a bit dull to watch.

I watched t last night, came across as just an ordinary player, who takes corners and free kicks! 30 soon, looks like his time was up with us anyway. should be interesting when hes down here next season .........

I heard some rumblings that he wasn’t the Mr nice guy behind the scenes.

Throughout all his time that he was in our first 11, I never considered him a genuine all purpose Captain that pulled out all the stops for the team.

Yes he was dependable, in that he was never injured and could always be called upon to enter the fray, but the Captain of the team needs to be far more than that.

I don’t think it was any coincidence when, in the season that we reached the playoff final, Ayew was on the pitch at the same time as Grimes.

He was the fulcrum of the team during that spell, and he acted more like a Captain should, more so than the passive role that Grimes took and always has taken as the team leader.

O’Brien’s arrival on loan, has highlighted the deficiencies of Grimes in that midfield area of the pitch even more, where he was caught dawdling with the ball and dispossessed on numerous occasions.

Yes all footballers make mistakes from time to time, but he was prone to make them all too often for my liking, which almost always led to a goal against us.

In the cold light of day, I think it’s safe to say that his legacy will fade over time, and everyone who’d care to think on it, will wonder as to why he was chosen to be the Captain in the first place, let alone the inordinate amount of time that he wore the armband for.
