Taking the knee booed at Millwall

Perhaps they were not booing anti-racism. Perhaps they were booing the BLM movement, and if they were they are well justified. It is a neo-Marxist, anti-capitalist organisation that believes in defunding the police. More than that it is also overtly racist -it believes that all white people are guilty of racism, just for being white. That the BBC, the police and the football authorities still bend at the knee to this repugnant organisation is nothing short of disgraceful. This organisation originated in America. Here’s an American perspective:

“ People are afraid to confront BLM because it will make them look like racists, or worse, fear for their lives. In fact, BLM participants are the true racists and socialists who will stop at nothing to tear down our country. Support Black people, but denounce the evil BLM movement for what it is before the hate and destruction they cause is irreversible. Don’t be fooled and don’t be afraid!

So why don't we have a touch your nose for starving African children, a star jump for the homeless, etc. Most football fans can accept the kneel jesture for a couple of weeks, but when is it going to end, half way into the season I think we get the message.

I saw a game a few months ago (it may well have been one of ours), where we had a minute silence for something, then a minutes applause for something, then taking the knee for BLM.

It made the whole thing look a bit farcical.

That’s not what the Millwall players were taking the knee for though that’s why they put out a statement on Friday.

Just ignore it then Flashy. No need to get so worked up about it mun.

I'm not getting worked up about it, I just I think it's been done to death, and needs stopping, and I also genuinely think most fans would agree with that sentiment, I go to watch football not watch grown me taking the knee or making some other f*cking gesture, but if they have to, do it once, not every f&cking game mun. Well done Millwall fans.

It takes less time than when players lined up and then shook hands with each other before kickoff. Don't remember people complaining about that being 'done to death, or 'needing stopping'. I can't imagine why.

Roth?

Does anyone know why one black derby player did not take the knee? He stood up giving the black power salute.

It's become a nauseating gesture that's well past it's bedtime, well done Millwall fans.

I think it should end simply because it’s become part of the furniture and isn’t being noticed the way it should be but how the fucking hell a brief gesture that takes about three seconds before we kick off could bother anyone in the way it’s bothering some is completely beyond my comprehension.
If it stops it doesn’t affect my life,if it continues it doesn’t affect my life.

It obviously upsets racists. Keep it going. Three seconds well spent.

That’s the thing, though. It’s become something that either people don’t care about, or something that is starting to annoy people (racists and non-racists), nothing to do with the meaning of the gesture.

Totally lost it’s impact.

I wouldn’t have been bothered if they’d drawn it to a close as a gesture and made more of a focused campaign and message for the long term but now I hope they keep it going, the reaction of the Millwall fans shows they need to.

The point has been made & it probably is time to stop it but anyone booing it is a bit of a moron.
Millwall fans would have been well aware of the players statement.

I agree with the points you make about the booing and Millwall players statement but the time the point doesn’t need to be made anymore is when the racism is seriously tackled.

Online racism directed towards Black footballers in this country is a serious issue. If footballers feel they need to keep reminding football fans of this then I agree with them making a point before games in whichever way they choose. If online racism persists why should players stop protesting?

Those posters of a right wing persuasion should try looking past their hatred of the BLM movement and try considering the online abuse that Black footballers receive. A bit of perspective may go a long way.

The social media companies are doing little about the issue; they don’t perceive adding monkey and banana emojis to abusive posts to Black footballers to be racist. Based on that they probably wouldn’t have considered monkey chants or throwing bananas at Black players to be racist either.

should footballers put up with this abuse in silence or should they be allowed to make a point that racism is not acceptable?

I think the campaign does need freshening up to get the message home to some people, but still needs co-ordination to avoid dilution. However that’s easy for me to say as I’m not the one receiving the racist abuse.

That’s fine, and a very reasonable and credible explanation, but unfortunately ‘taking-the-knee’ is, and forever will be, inextricably linked to the BLM movement.

Nobody gets annoyed or fed up at something, other than the fact they disagree with the overlying message.
