As someone new to Swansea (here from the Sounders community) it's interesting that Cooper wants another striker despite the fact that he doesn't seem inclined to use subs much. It's a bit confusing.
Meanwhile the Championship continues its new trend of raiding MLS for talent. Just saw that Barnsley signed their own MLS youngster Daryl Dike--a 20 yr old who is huge and raw but surprised folks with his production last year (8goals, 4 assists in first year of professional football). and Uruguayan Diego Rossi to Reading looks likely. The latter is a big surprise. Many have Rossi pegged as more like a $20 million player headed for a Top 5 league. I know nothing of Reading except they are in contention for promotion, but if their need is really fast and skilled goal scorer, this is bad news for the rest of the Championship. As high as folks in the US are on Morris, they are next level high on Rossi....

You can't mention Reading on this site.. or Brentford Cardiff Forest Leeds Bristol City or Colin Wanker.

Looking at the free agent market for strikers, some obvious names about including one former player but this guy may be worth a shout:
https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dom-dwyer/profil/spieler/105185

Worth a 6 month contract at least on the face of it

https://youtu.be/IxngC3XLwMo Small sample yes, but he looks a tidy finisher and feisty enough for the championship

No-one should be signing children up anyway, and getting a work permit for a player may be another bit of bureaucracy but it's not the end of the world. I'm still curious if people who voted for Brexit, because they were told there would be less paperwork, are feeling like idiots right now.

"Football transfers are not the same. There are many hidden consequences from Brexit even in the world of sport. If a football team in England now wants to sign a player from a team in the EU they will first have to obtain a work permit. In addition, signing a player under the age of 18 is now strictly off-limits."

Do you really think people voted for Brexit "because they were told there would be less paperwork"? What a strange comment. But to answer your question - no. The exact opposite, in fact.

I'm expecting to be dissapointed that we don't sign a rwb cover

Edit: Maybe not...

Swansea closing in on a loan deal for Paul Arriola, another US international – story via my colleague
@PaulTenorio
, who talks extremely highly of Arriola (can play RW or RWB, 13 goals/10 assists across 2018 & 2019 before ACL injury). More here:

Looking on the breezy side, prefee to keep Conor with Naughton or Garrick as cover than lose one of our key players. Conor and Jake are key players this season in Cooper's formation. A few team have it sussed, Derby and Brentford but it takes some doing to pin back our ears so to speak. I expect Norwich will have a go.

Swansea City eye deals for Morgan Whittaker, Paul Arriola and Kieron Freeman

Source: BBC Sport

Swansea City are set to sign Derby County forward Morgan Whittaker for around £700,000 and are discussing a deal for DC United's Paul Arriola.

USA international Arriola, 25, could join on loan, while one-cap Wales international Kieron Freeman is another name on Swansea's radar.

Arriola can play in midfield or on the wing, while Freeman, 28, is a right-sided full-back or wing-back.

Derby academy product Whittaker, 20, can play up front or out wide.

He made 21 appearances for the Rams last season but has featured on only 11 occasions so far in this campaign. Whittaker has represented England at all age groups from under-16 to under-20.

Arriola has scored eight goals in 35 appearances for the USA having played in the MLS for DC United since 2017. He previously played in Mexico for Tijuana.

Freeman was released by Sheffield United at the end of last season having played 141 games - and scored 17 goals - across two spells with the Blades.

He played 23 times as Chris Wilder's team won promotion to the Premier League in 2018-19 and featured on seven occasions last season.

Freeman, who has also played for the likes of Nottingham Forest, Derby and Portsmouth, won his solitary senior Wales cap in Albania in November 2018.

Having been a free agent since the end of last term, Freeman signed a short-term deal with League One Swindon Town earlier this month.

Swansea head coach Steve Cooper has also been hoping to sign an out-and-out centre-forward after losing Liam Cullen to a long-term injury, but seems unlikely to get a deal over the line before Monday's 23:00 GMT transfer deadline.

Freeman sounds like a "better than nothing" option, not convinced.

now interested in kieron freeman

Didn't he only sign for Swindon a few weeks ago?

On the 7th January  maybe he had a clause to say if a Championship side came in he could leave, he only signed a short term deal so he'd virtually cost nothing.

D.C. United finalizing loan of Paul Arriola to Swansea City

Source: Washington Post

With hours left before the deadline, D.C. United on Monday was on the brink of loaning star winger Paul Arriola to Swansea City for the rest of the English Championship season, multiple people familiar with the talks said.

“Paperwork is in motion,” one person said, requesting anonymity because some details remain unresolved. The cutoff for English league clubs to complete such moves is 6 p.m. ET on Monday.

United would retain conditional rights to recall Arriola this spring. Those conditions are unclear, but in all likelihood, he would remain with the second-division Swans until the end of their campaign in May to earn promotion to the Premier League.

Swansea City is second in the 24-team league, which will reward two clubs with automatic berths in the top flight and conduct a four-team playoff for the last slot.

Arriola would become the second U.S. national team player to join the Swans in this transfer window. On Jan. 22, they acquired Seattle Sounders forward Jordan Morris on loan for the rest of the campaign. There was no recall option reported.

In a way, United and Swansea City are reallocating resources. Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien are primary investors in both clubs. In 2018, the Swans were relegated to the second flight, a demotion that cost millions in Premier League TV revenue and sponsorships.

MLS is planning to open training camps Feb. 22 and the regular season April 3, but with the league and players’ association stuck in labor negotiations, the threat of a lockout starting Friday could impact the timetable.

Typically, a loan deal is accompanied by an option for the receiving club to acquire the player on a permanent transfer when the loan ends. In this case, however, that would not exist. The sides could engage in such discussions at a later point, one person said.

Arriola, who will turn 26 on Friday, scored twice Sunday in the 7-0 U.S. victory over Trinidad and Tobago in Orlando. He also scored in a 6-0 victory over El Salvador in December, his return to international soccer after recovering from an ACL injury suffered last MLS preseason.

Arriola missed the entire 2020 MLS season until returning in the second half of the season finale.

Other MLS players are on the move. Orlando City forward Daryl Dike, who starred at the University of Virginia in 2019, joined Barnsley, an English second-tier club, on a short-term loan. Orlando retained conditional rights to recall him this spring.

FC Dallas defender Bryan Reynolds, 19, moved to Roma, an Italian Serie A club, on a short-term loan that will turn into a permanent transfer this summer. Dallas said the deal involves a “franchise-record fee,” but did not disclose terms. Various reports said Roma will pay about $8 million.

Valued at £18M on Transfermarket, hell of a record for LA 42 goals in 80 games.
